Seemingly on every evening's Hardball, Chris Matthews enjoys chanting a mantra of allegedly failed Bush administration promises on Iraq.. Chief among them is his taunt that the White House claimed that our troops would be greeted as liberators.
Just as it might be soothing to see someone silence an ostentatious Berkeley hippie endlessly chanting 'ummm', it was most satisfying to witness Christopher Hitchens on this evening's Hardball comprehensively refute Matthews on his claim.
Once again, Matthews launched into his leitmorif: Pres. Bush: "strikes out . . . on the fact that we were going to be treated as liberators."
Hitchens: "I saw it myself."
Matthews: "Pictures?"
Hitchens:
"No. I was there. I saw it myself. American soldiers and British soldiers were greeted by hundreds of thousands of people with real joy. I saw it myself. I can't believe people say it didn't happen."
Ummmmm!
Hardball/NewsBusters ping to Today show list.
Yes Chrissy, we have video of it maybe you forget the video of the statue falling?
We were then and we are now. I am so glad someone finally stuck it back in Chrissy's face. Mark, have you seen the transcript of Chrissy's remarks on Imus this morning?
Kind of difficult for Chrissy to come back with one of his snide comments to that...LOL
Matthews actually tried. He said that what he had in mind was the way the French treated Allied troops in WWII. But I'd say Hitchens described something very much like that.
I heard Matthews blew up on Imus. What did he say?
Missed it. Can you describe?
I'll be right back.
Just awesome...
It's sooo gratifying that the MSM reports stuff like this.....NOT!
MSNBC's Chris Matthews: "I think the president made a big mistake this week, and maybe I'm the only one that caught it, but when he came out and said he never said that we went to Iraq because of what happened on 9/11, that Saddam was never involved in 9/11, that whole mentality, the whole culture, the country music, everything, was saying this was payback. We are getting them in Iraq because of what they did to us on 9/11, and now they come out and say I never claimed that. Well you know it's in the actual language of when he said to congress, I'm now going to pick you up on that authorization to go to war, but we are going to war tomorrow, this is in 2003 in March, we are going to war tomorrow and the reason we are going is because we are going to get the countries attacked us on 9/11 we are going to get them. He clearly said all along. The Darryl Worley song remember how you felt, and you know all that stuff, the Vice President saying that Saddam was involved in 9/11 again and again. To come out now and say I never said this was payback is B.S." BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE. I'LL BE BACK.

It is about time that those who can refute the lies of the left speak up. They have been silent for toooo long!

Imus speaks to MSNBC's Chris Matthews about the decision to go to war in Iraq.
Imus: "I forgot who said this, it could have been Tom Friedman or, and I always thought that after September 11th, the administration wanted, maybe they always wanted to go to war with Iraq or whatever, but they wanted to demonstrate to the Muslim community and the Muslim world that we were not going to take that and that we were going to strike back at somebody and they picked what they thought was going to be the easiest target, they thought as that moron at the CIA said that it was a slam dunk. They went in there and instead of being greeted as liberators as the Vice President told Tim Russert a week before this thing started, they got in there and the thing blew up on him and they have been there three years trying to get out."
MSNBC's Chris Matthews: "Well I am just going to stick to this point that the president led us in there with the background music of American culture. Everybody was led to believe that we were getting payback, we were avenging what happened on 9/11 and that we are going to get them. Vice President Cheney said we are going to attack terrorism at its base. Over and over the language was, this is where it came from, in fact most recently the President suggested that it was always the hot pursuit, like a new York police chase, we chased them back into their country. We pursued the terrorists back to Iraq and it's all nonsense. The reason there are terrorists in Iraq today like Zarqawi is we created the opening by blowing the country apart. From the beginning it's been not true. Now you can't prove motive and you can't prove somebody lies, but from the beginning everything about how they've got WMD's, they are a threat to us, they are going to bomb us with a nuclear weapon, this country is going to be an easy liberate, it's going to be a cake walk. As Cheney said as recently as ten months ago the insurgents are in their last throws. Everything that is said is not true. And right to the end here, here we are now and it's not a civil war and when Allawi the prime Minster is saying it is a civil war and here is the president quoting his own people that it's not a civil war. I mean the denial has been continuous. So you really can't count on the administration to tell you what is going on. That is just the fact. You've got to check it out. By the way, the president said this week that he wants the whole truth about what is going on in Iraq, the whole truth and that the media isn't telling the whole story. I'll tell you what we are not telling. We are not showing pictures of the twenty five hundred bodies coming back because they won't let us show the pictures. They don't want the whole truth out and that's the fact."
There are pictures. You can see them on-line. Go to yahoo.com and search in images. There's websites (thank you america); there was even a movie (voices of Iraq).
This is a joke. EYES WIDE SHUT. Let's all make believe they weren't cheering when saddam's statute came. Let's all make believe they weren't "shoeing" his murals.
Let's pretend they didn't turn him in. Let's ignore every poll there to date showing they're glad he's gone.
Democrat politics + MSM = Revisionist history 101
The best thing about this is that Hitchens is NOT a conservative, Republican or Bushbot.
Kinda hard for Chrissy to call him names...
I love Hitchens. No one is better at b-tch slapping his fellow liberals.
And yes Chrissy, there are LOTS of pictures backing up what Hitchens says. I saw tape of people lined up along the roads into Baghdad gleefully welcoming US troops. Matthews thinks because he's disappointed to see Saddam gone, Iraqis must be as well. Truly a putz.
Thanks, Bahbah!
Many "Liberation" pics here:

If Chris "I joined the Peace Corps instead of the Marine Corps" Matthews ever went to Iraq and visited with the troops in the field he would see for himself.
Matthews is way out of line, govs.
We haven't stood down so they haven't stood up. If they haven't stood up, we are not winning. Greeting as liberators, people sticking their fingers in ink-wells, or building schools falls short of meeting the definition of success.
Kinda like Matthews because he'll just keep on with his tired politics right up till the bitter end.
And boy is he going to be bitter.
C'mon lovers of freedom, muscle up and let's do it in November!
OMG. Matthews has gone off the DEEP end.
Thanks so much for the transcript Bahbah- this is a perfect example of the way liberals process information.
Matthews is obsessed.
More "Liberation" photos here:

In Afghanistan, the result was to "liberate" the Islamo-fascists to bring capital charges against Christians.
"Kinda hard for Chrissy to call him names..."
Chrissy couldn't get himself to the left of Hitch if he used both arms and legs and every muscle in his body.
Back in the late 70's LI Newsday printed Hitchins column. I read them--as infuriating as they were--and I can tell you Hitchins isn't a leftist or a Leftist, rather he is a
!!!!LEFTIST!!!!
The thing that the transcript can't convey is the bitter hatred that was in Matthew's voice. I listened with my mouth hanging open.
He's completely nuts. If I ever hear him refer to himself as a "journalist", I'll chase him down with a baseball bat.
Maybe, but neither is it failure. If we are "not winning" are we losing?
The Pentagon directive about not filming returning bodies preceeded the war by years, if I'm not mistaken. Anyone with the actual facts about this please post, if you could. I am relying on memory here, but this is something that's been addressed.
Chrissy can keep saying "facts facts facts" all he wants, but his problem is one of opinion--he is of the OPINION that the Clinton way of dealing with terrorism is THE way. I disagree. Terror against the US is not a street crime. The heart of Middle Eastern terror--which is a philosophy of war, a method of war, not a nation with an agenda--had to be hit. Chrissy and Imus talk about this as if we can't hit an Adolph Hitler-like figure and just end the war, so we should do nothing, when what we HAD to do if not in 2003 then someday was drive a stake into the heart of the SYSTEM that upholds terror is get our foot in the door in the Middle East and work from there. This is ALL out in the open, it is right there in Bush's declaration of what he intended to do in Iraq.
Chrissy lives in a pathetic little world of heroes and villains, he is enamored of The Greatest Generation and thinks of one isn't some pure Audie Murphy type battling Nazis, then one is letting him down personally, and he is hurt by that.
Chrissy is the perfect example of a 9/10 mentality.
I can understand disagreement on policy, but for goodness sake you have to operate with facts, not what you imagine is happening!
I think you pretty much said it all, plus he's a mean, nasty fellow.
Good! I really cannot stand Matthews. Bless you for your iron stomach and your abilities to keep tabs on the MSM.
Also, if he tells us one more time about his being in the Peace Corps--which he thinks makes him an expert on everything--I may just puke.
There's the rub --- it's not PEACEFUL enough for the spitter yet, brave macho man that he is. Much safer for him to criticize efforts from the confines of the tv studio.
We should flood Matthews email with pictures and video.
What say you?
The enemy of my enemy is my friend.[I would hate to have either of these characters as my friend.]
And who better than a lefty like Hitchens to speak up. It's a dirty job, but SOMEONE has to do it.
He'll never get Meet the Press, just as he never gets the truly important interviews. If Klein were to wise up and fire him, Matthews would be another sartorial slummer like David Gargle.
There is more gold in those Imus transcripts. Just off the top of my head: Andrea Mitchell's confession/retraction/lying; David Gregory's drunk sailor routine; and Richardson's ridiculous posturing for Kerry.
I actually happened to watch this. I found myself intrigued by the fact this matthews and sharpton, carry on so smuggly as if their voices even matter. What was the viewership I read earlier today??? .3!!
Hahahahaha!
True. leadpenny is often kind enough to post those gems for us on the Daily Talk Show thread from time to time.
