Cheney: If Democrats can lead, then I can sing
Reuters ^ | March 24, 2006 | Barbara Liston

Posted on 03/24/2006 9:44:42 PM PST by FairOpinion

ORLANDO, Fla., Mar 24 (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney on Friday rejected charges by Democrats that the Bush administration was mishandling Iraq and said: "If they are competent to fight this war, then I ought to be singing on American Idol."

During a campaign stop in Orlando, Cheney predicted that national security would dominate congressional elections in November and sought to rally Republicans amid dwindling popular support for President George W. Bush.

In Washington, Democratic National Committee spokesman Luis Miranda called the criticism of his party an attempt to divert attention from the situation in Iraq, which is torn by violence three years after the U.S.-led invasion.

Referring to a notoriously acerbic judge on the American Idol television talent contest, Miranda said, "Simon Cowell is more loved than this administration and its failed Iraq policy. Cheney wouldn't last long on American Idol."

Speaking to a Republican crowd at a fund-raiser for U.S. Rep. Ric Keller of Orlando, Cheney dismissed accusations that the administration was "dangerously incompetent" and defended the war in Iraq and Bush's anti-terrorism tactics.

He spoke in favor of Bush's controversial executive order allowing the National Security Agency to conduct wiretaps within the United States without warrants.

"Some Democrats in Congress have decided the president is the enemy and the terrorist surveillance program is grounds for censuring the president," Cheney said, adding, "The American people have already made their decision. They agree with the president."

It's about time that Bush and Cheney come out swinging, but better late than never.

If they would keep this up, telling the American people the truth and making sure people understand what is truth and what is Dem attack propaganda, which actually hurts the country and is dangerous for the American people -- their approval ratings will jump 20 points.

Ah Reuters. They love that word, dwindle. Like the stock shares of the NYT and other dinosaur media outlets. Dwindling as we write.

Dwindledee and dwindledum. That's got to be who writes these dwindle minded articles.

Cheney does have a way with words, doesn't he?

And so does Rumsfeld.

This is exactly what is needed to get the point across to the American people.

He actually fielded a Maureen Dowd-related question in his press conference today!

The MSM simply have no idea how deep they're digging the well they're drowning in.

"Dwindle." "Quagmire." "Vietnam." "Incompetent." "Culture of corruption."

All of the liberal talking points get regurgitated by the leftmedia continuously, yet they act as though nothing's going on. Of course. There's no bias. It's merely one long commercial for liberalism.

WW1 - Woodrow Wilson( D)

WW2 - FDR (D)

Korean War - Truman (D)

Vietnam War - Kennedy and LBJ both (D)

Beginning of current Islamic Jihad - Carter (D)

That kinda goes along with what my senior year history teacher told the class about Democrats: they are the party of war and treason.

If Mrs. O'Rourke were still teaching, she would probably amend that to say that the Democrats are the party of perversion as well.

Some reporter asked a question by repeating MoDo's assertion that he was treated in Cabinet meetings like the crazy ol' uncle nobody wanted around. Rummy told the reporter that if he believed everything Maureen Dowd wrote he needed to get a life.

Why, he is a former Secretary of Defense during Dessert Storm and Dessert Shield which was nearer in history than his deferments which gives him absolute authority to speak of fighting wars.

Being secretary of Defense would give you more security knowledge etc and opportunity to learn war strategy in a greater overall depth than probably would have given him by going to Vietnam. Also as VP he is aware of many top security issues that you; or I have and should have no idea as to what is going on. He is in a perfect position to talk about war.

It also shows the character of the men that he can freely talk about it knowing that the RATS will mention this. He knows the truth is more important than any personal attacks on him which after this amount of time in history and his voting record/stance on issues involved with military things is not only ridiculous but disingenuous.

I should have know his own so called side would shout foul as well. As other freepes sign off with support W and the troops, I would add support the VP as well as W and the troops.

I suspect there are things you talk about with authority or knowledge and support that in your earlier life you either had good reasons for not doing or disagreed with.

Look at it another way this was God's providence he did not go to Vietnam where he may have been killed or mentally/physically scared for life. He was in Washington as VP on September the 11th 2001 which I believe shows his metal, his calmness and yes he ability to lead in a war situation. Americans should thank God that he was spared both from Vietnam and 4 heart attacks (albeit mild ones) plus by pass surgery to have been in Washington that day.

Amen. I'm a Vietnam combat veteran (sorry to do a Kerry here) and I don't think the VP is unqualified to take a leading role in matters of war.

There's a huge difference between those who didn't serve in the military in wartime, and those who treasonously sought to undermine their country's war effort.

I think Cheney supported our fight against communism during the Vietnam War.
