Don't go to Paris warning
The Sun ^ | March 25, 2006 | PETER ALLEN

Posted on 03/25/2006 2:45:16 PM PST by Leisler

BRITONS have been warned: Stay away from riot-torn Paris.

The Foreign Office says the French capital — which has been rocked by violent demos — is too dangerous.

Protests against a new employment law have erupted into riots, with fierce fighting in the shadow of famous tourist spots like the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame Cathedral.

Cars have been set alight, shops looted and gangs of youths and masked men swinging baseball bats and wooden planks have had running battles with riot police who have used water cannon and tear gas.The Foreign Office alert is a huge blow to France, which has always considered itself a haven of fashion chic and culture.

Pictures flashed around the world show a new Paris racked with class division. That was illustrated yesterday by photographs of an elegant woman in high heels set upon by youths in the trendy Esplanade des Invalides.

They harried the defenceless woman like a pack of wolves, oblivious to watching police and photographers. One ripped her handbag away while another rifled through her pockets.

Some hotels around the famous Left Bank of the River Seine — usually full of romantic couples strolling hand in hand — have boarded up their windows up as armoured vehicles with water cannons patrol the streets.

Paris’s mayor, Bertrand Delanoe, called the situation “explosive” and added: “The government’s obstinacy is creating an extremely dangerous situation that is sinking into further violence and further danger.”

French President Jacques Chirac, in Brussels at an EU summit meeting, called the violence “intolerable and unacceptable” and ordered authorities to punish troublemakers “with all necessary severity”.

The violence — which has spread to other cities — has led to more than 1,400 arrests and more than 450 cops being injured.

It follows anger over the government’s First Jobs Contract (CPE), which will let bosses sack workers under 26 without warning.

terior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said many of the rioters were the same ones — from poor suburbs with high unemployment — who brought chaos to the streets during three weeks of violence last year.

He added: “There were hoodlums who are the same as the rioters of November. Clearly some people are using these events to vandalise and attack.”

Union leaders had talks with French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin, but failed to get him to withdraw the CPE.

They warned him that protests would continue unless it was dropped — and said a general strike would be held on Tuesday.

The CPE is aimed at reducing high youth unemployment by giving bosses more flexibility and fighting France’s high youth jobless rate, which has reached 50 per cent in the riot-hit suburbs.

Funny how they'll fight each other and their "gendarmes" but they wouldn't lift a fist to fight off the Germans.

It is spring break in our community and I know of 2 families going to Paris.

Don't these people pay any attention to what is happening over there? What are they thinking?

The socialists have led France into permanent economic decline.

The abortion ravaged French population is severely infertile, as well. The native French are quickly on the road to extinction.

Awful pictures. Bold French yutes attacking
young and middle aged French women, presumably for the crime of being well-dressed. The French did that a couple of hundred years ago, but one hoped that they had grown out of it. Most of the kids in these pictures appeared to be immigrants, but they have obviously imbibed the sullen lumpen-proletariat ideals of the French left.

My cousin is studying in France this year. He called me last week and told me that most of the colleges will be shut down for more than a month.

He is living with a very conservative Catholic family during his stay.

According to him the rioters have recruited kids as young as 12 to protest with them. He tells me that the students are enjoying themselves and he is willing to bet that 1/2 of them don't even know what they are protesting against.

In the immediate aftermath of 9/11, the Europeans were acting as if they were the ones who were attacked. Europeans were shouting at Jews...."it's all the damn Jews fault", anti-war protests were being held long before we invaded Afghanistan. I guess they knew what was coming. They knew that America would fight back and their own Muslim populations would use America's actions as an excuse to wreak havoc all over Europe.

Hey Europe, you subjected the Jews to ghettos, expulsions, pogroms and gas chambers, and all the Jews ever wanted to do was earn a decent living and mind their own business. Now you bend over backwards to kiss the butts of Muslim delinquents who openly state their intention to turn all of Europe into an Islamic state.

You've made your beds, now go lie down, you damned dumb dhimmis.

I have a family member passing through France using Air France this weekend and due to necessary schedule will have to overnight in Paris.

"STRIKES MAY DISRUPT FLIGHTS ON TUESDAY Airplane flights to and from France and within the country may be disturbed Tuesday as French air controllers join a broad strike protesting a new labor law. ''The impact of the strike warning on air traffic in particular is hard to predict, but we expect disturbances and flight cancellations,'' France's civil aviation authority, Delegation Generale de l'Aviation Civile, wrote in an e-mail. Government workers, unions and students are planning a nationwide demonstration to protest a law that has become the most contentious issue faced by French Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin in his 10 months in the job. The law lets companies fire workers under 26 years old within the first two years of employment with little notice. Since unions called for a ''day of action,'' the protests have widened to state-owned companies, such as the national railway and the RATP, which manages the Paris subway. Air France-KLM Group doesn't expect its own employees to widely take up the strike, said spokeswoman Caroline Fontaine. She said the airline currently foresees ''no impact'' on flights from employee actions but added that air-controller strikes could affect flights."
