The best of Savage would be the first 60 or so books, but you have to read them in the original pulp magazine order, not the order that Bantam rereleased the paperbacks in. Doc did evolve a little over the years, so some do favor his later adventures, but I like the original ones myself: The Man of Bronze, the Land of Terror, Brand of the Werewolf. Ah, those were good.

Avoid the comics. They were just too silly.

Can you imagine running into Savage when he is on one of his benders? Yikes almighty, I'm sure he is a real fun drunk.

When he calms down and applies logical thought and facts to an issue, he's usually right on the money. Too often, though, he's just a conservative version of Al Franken/Randi Rhodes. Just a lot of needless screeching and wailing backed by less-than-logic and almost no facts.

What'll take up the other 2 hours and 57 minutes?

Talk about his dogs and endlessly rambling over cuban music.

Mike tells great stories without a doubt. Be it his childhood memories ( which are among my favorites ) to his stories about Teddy.
He makes some great points on a regular basis and I used to listen from 7PM - 10PM here in Boston. The station moved him to late night which goes head to head with The John Batchelor show which I try not to miss.
Like many conservatives, Rush was the one who introduced me to AM talk radio and I'll forever be greatful. When he goes into ' blowhard ' mode I cant listen. His ego gets the best of him sometimes and I'm not buying his line of how he does that to annoy the left.
Talk show I never miss is Howie Carr.

Don't forget endless hours of manic depressive rantings about bad service in restaurants.

Yes Michael give us more bread, beer and chinese food talk.

Fascinating.

That better be 100 proof you idiot!

"Don't forget endless hours of manic depressive rantings about bad service in restaurants."

Yeah... Savage is one-of-a-kind... right now David Horowitz is on. He won't do three straight hours of Dubai Ports deal like some (hint, hint) but will ramble into almost nonsensical topics... but out of them he pulls gold nuggets.

At least he's funny

I liked the one where he said his wife asked if his new engine had a bronze propeller, and when he opened the engine box at the boat yard, the prop was broken!

Spooky, isn't it?

Hey... if its alcohol that makes him that funny and insightful then he ought to pass the bottle to some of his talk show peers

Howie really puts together a great show. Hes really down to Earth too. I've met him numerous times and hes just a real good guy.
Do you recall when VB had his own radio show? It was good.
