Yesterday’s Protester Remarks Illustrate A Misguided Nation
Immigration News Daily ^ | March 25, 2006 | The Editors

Posted on 03/25/2006 4:55:23 PM PST by AZRepublican

From the Editors:

The big story of yesterdays protest rally’s across the country over immigration reform was not the numbers of protesters or immigration reform controversies, but the protesters own remarks over what they believed they were fighting for. The remarks illustrate what many may have already known in their gut: the constant exploitation of minorities via partisan politics and far-fetched Supreme Court rulings has lead to a false illusion of rights and national identity.

It's this illusion that rights advocates today find worthy to exploit to advance whatever cause they may be peddling. In the process, millions of desperate people are being lead by a false sense of entitlement. Our foolish broken system no longer serves no one -- it only serves to serve more foolishness.

The real losers in all this are the common American who must bare witness to the foolishness before them. The political pandering; the cries for ever more rights of those who in reality have no standing to demand from this country.

And one must ask: Where were the protests in Latin America yesterday? Surely such a large group of Latinos who left their home countries for a better life here would organizing rally’s back home for the very goals they came to seek in this country? There is something uneasy about a group of people who rally for changes for themselves in another country but not their very own.

What follows is a collection of remarks by those who were protesting against immigration reform yesterday. We'll let their own words tell the story, no further comments is needed:

"This is only the beginning," said Alfredo Gutierrez, a former state lawmaker.

"I don't care. I want to help my people. The (Sensenbrenner) law is bad for immigrants. It's time for the sleeping giant to wake," said Felix Lopez.

About 200 converged on the steps of the Georgia Capitol, some wrapped in Mexican flags and holding signs reading: "Don't panic, we're Hispanic" and "We have a dream, too."

"All we desire is those rights the American Supreme Court has said is guaranteed to all persons by the constitution. We want the same equal rights as anyone else in this country, for our children to receive a decent public education," said Roberto Gomez.

“Everyone wants to work. All we ask is that they let us continue to work and have a life here. We’re not asking for much,” said Catalina Sailly.

"Without immigrants, this country wouldn't be anything," said freshman Anna Benitez

"I'm here to make sure that the Mexicans get their freedom, their rights," said Montebello High School student Jeannette Garcia, 15, who held up a sign that said "Freedom."

Clutching Mexican flags, thousands in Phoenix chanted, "Si, se puede," a rallying cry of the United Farm Workers union that means "Yes, we can."

Isidro Ortega of Phoenix, who waived a giant Mexican flag, said "They want to make a law that would make it illegal for me to talk to my wife."

"It's about time we exercised some of our civil rights," said John Chavez.

“If we had the opportunity to make ourselves legal, we would have,” Juan said.

"I am a third-generation Mexican-American. I am not an undocumented immigrant, but I strongly support my undocumented immigrant brothers and sisters in their struggle for justice and their equal rights," said Marquez, the leader of Students United for Immigrant Rights.

"On the Statue of Liberty it says, 'Give me your tired, your hungry, your poor yearning for liberty,' and that's why we're here," said Michael Rosen, president of the local union representing teachers at Milwaukee Area Technical College.

"The United States of America was built and established for the freedom of people. We have to be united as one, liberty and justice for all mankind," said Magdalena DeLeon.

"It's a disgrace and racist to make it a crime for anyone to live and work in this country. There never should be any any racist laws to prevent anyone from becoming a hard working American citizen," said Mario.

Ooops, it appeared the article left out some pertinent facts. But I fixed it.

The nerve of them waving that flag that someone should have grabbed and burned right in front of them. They need to demonstrate against their govt and wave their flags there not in this Country!

Tell everyone you know to tell all compamies you work with that you will not tolerate any flag waving illegal to work on your property, walk out of restaurants and tell them to dump the illegals and maybe you will return, anywhere you are and see a non-english speaking socialist that looks like the flag waving demonstrator seen on the streets of America today walk out if its a restaurant or a hotel.

Dont plan any vacations in any mexican destination!

I never thought we'd be invaded and taken over by another Country in the way it has happened.

They just waltz over the Border and organize protests, and my American Politicans end up giving these Illegals what they want.

And what they want is Our Country. What many want as well, is to turn the United States into a third world crap-hole by not assimilating and not learning our language.

I sure wish all these thousands of 'hard-working well-meaning" folks would invest half the effort into improving their own country that do into trying to invade ours. Yes, we are blessed here in the USA, but what we have is not anything magic, or impossible to replicate elsewhere, provided you are willing corporately to do the hard work, with integrity.

"On the Statue of Liberty it says, 'Give me your tired, your hungry, your poor yearning for liberty,' and that's why we're here," said Michael Rosen, president of the local union representing teachers at Milwaukee Area Technical College.

And the Statue of Liberty is located on Ellis Island, where immigrants entered the United States in accordance with its laws. It was for Americans a matter of national security... not only protection from criminals and enemies but protection from diseases. Those legal entries also provided additions to the tax base. We have none of those protections or benefits at our southern border now.

And the fact that the quote I excerpted is from a teacher simply infuriates me. You know what he is filling the heads of his students with...

Please call them INVADERS and don't compare them to people who are legal aliens!

President Bush has been great on most things except for our border.
He has been great on the war on terrorists.
But on the border he is a gross failure.
He acted fast and correct on the 3,000+ people murdered at the world trade center.
He ignores the many rapes, murders and robberies which might be larger than the murders and money loss at the world trade center.
More Americans are abducted on the border of Mexico than in Iraq!

Start building the fence.

It should be made a felony for Criminals who overstay their visas and Invaders.

I believe we should give amnesty to these poor CRIMINALS or INVADERS.
This should be a 2 week amnesty to get the heck out of our Country.
The ones who ignore this amnesty should be buried in a tent city jail and fined $10,000 or buried elsewhere.
All aiders and abettors of these CRIMINALS or INVADERS should get 1 year in a tent city jail and a $10,000 fine for each CRIMINAL aided.
Those in government should be the first ones charged.

The purpose of Islam in Mexico is to encourage Muslim brothers and sisters from around the world to participate and assist in what, by the grace of Allah, is an extremely dynamic arena for Islamic dawah. For the Muslims, this website will provide an insight into the exciting dawah efforts that are being carried out by the MUSLIM CENTER DE MEXICO (MCM) and the tremendous potential for Islam to bear fruit in Mexico and throughout Latin America.

Dawa in Mexico has been a unique experience. The active muslim community here is consists mainly of Mexican Muslims committed in practicing the great favor they received from Allah and sharing this blessing with others. A common scenario in this Dawa is to see a member of a large family accept Islam and gradually see how other members of the same family come to the fold of Islam. Before the opening of the center islam was nearly unknown to the public, today it’s a different story. However there’s a lot more work to do. Today we have hundred’s of Mexican Muslims and hundred’s of thousands of Mexicans have a more genuine picture of Islam than before. You can become a means of helping Mexicans come to Islam.

get a job, pay taxes.

Wrong issue. Most of these people do have jobs, and do pay taxes.

The issue really is that our immigration laws don't meet our needs (we don't have a way for manual laborers to come here for short periods of time), so both foreigners and Americans ignore the laws.

When the laws become so out of sync with what we need, we need to change the laws, instead of becoming hysterical about obeying the laws on the books.

I couldn't agree with you more. Just reading those comments made my blood pressure raise big time...and I had to turn the channel when they showed those kids walking out of school in Ca. yesterday to protest.

All I could think of , was, well it's no wonder they're protesting by the thousands in Ca. and elsewhere....I don't doubt that more than 3/4 of the protesters are illegals. The sad thing is, the idiots in Washington that are supposed to be looking out for our rigthts are too darned busy trying to come up with a way to give our country away to a bunch of lawless invaders. I don't care if they're here to work, the bottom line is, the first action they take by crossing our border illegally is to BREAK THE LAW. They come from a lawless, corrupt country and when they get here they have no regard for law or rules of the land.

If you have a Sen. on the Judicial Committee that will be supposedly debating this next week, have you given him or her a call and urged them to vote NO on any bill that doesn't put gaining control of the border FIRST? It may not change their minds, I'm sure the arm twisting and deal bargaining is in full swing, but at least we don't have to be the SILENT majority.

I'm just sorry those of us who are so passionately against our country being taken over, aren't out there en mass filling the streets and being very visible in OUR protest.
But of course, the main stream press and the libs would be sure to call us racists. Believe me, I'm Scotch/Irish and if we were being over run by millions of ILLEGAL Scotch/Irish, you better believe I'd be just as darned mad as I am now.

"It's about time we exercised some of our civil rights," said John Chavez.

Then go home and exercise them.

This is one argument I remember having (along with a friend of mine) with some fluff headed college girl some years ago. Some seem to think that our rights automatically encircle the world and that anyone who steps foot over here automatically qualifies for those same rights, as well as citizenship. The underlying argument almost always comes down to, "oh the poor people, they need our help". These people have countries that are responsible for them.

"How much later? They seem to be moving to the streets in large numbers now."

Right, and as soon as anyone marches against them, there are cries of 'racist' and almost certainly retribution against those who protest illegals' lawbreaking entry into our country. The same treatment is meted out right here on this board--anyone else notice that at one point, every single immigration thread had 'bigotry' added as a keyword? (seems to be largely mod-corrected since as keyword abuse) It's hard for compromise fans to deny that their primary argument for the amnesty is that asking for America's borders to be protected is akin to asking for a hood and fiery cross patch to be affixed to your breast. Americans are afraid to protest but lawbreakers flood the streets, unconcerned they will be subject to arrest, and the only reason anyone at all can claim to be for the amnesty is that they're already here. Not that this is a good thing. Not that it is a positive for America. That we're stuck with millions of illegals, and we should accept it and move on.

That's a Rat slogan. And I'm done moving.

The only way he was able to work was through networking with people I knew. I am damn sick and tired of hearing they do the "work Americans won't do."

"They want to make a law that would make it illegal for me to talk to my wife."

This statement, beyond its patent absurdity, should be the cue for responsible media to ridicule the whole thing. Of course they won't.

And hey, if his wife's homely enough, maybe such a law is just the get-out clause he needs. But I digress.

The message, of course, is as muddled as it is misguided. They want rights (read: handouts) from the government of the United States? Then why brandish Mexican flags? Do you see Koreans, Syrians, South Africans or Senegalese waving the flags of their home countries while barking about what George Will calls "freshly-minted rights" once they have emigrated legally to the US? Isn't it the legal part that they are really protesting? And when will the next protest in favor of bank robbers and car thieves be, as long as we're promoting lawbreaking?

Absolutely not. First of all, I do not believe that guest worker status should lead to citizenship. Citizenship status should follow the same rules and quotas we currently have.
And a minor point is that I don't think we know how many of the illegals are Mexican. The Hispanics come from all different SA countries, as well as China, Europe, and Africa. The Irish PM was asking our gov't to allow Irish to stay, and that leads me to believe we have more Irish illegals here than any of us would guess.
