US Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld brushed off calls for his resignation and said he had no plans to step down.

"I'm hard at the job, working hard, and getting up every day and thinking what we can do for the troops and the wonderful people who serve our country," he told reporters ...

Rumsfeld also was asked about a New York Times column by Maureen Dowd, who said Rumsfeld was being treated at the White House as "an eccentric uncle."

"If you believe everything you read in Maureen Dowd, you better get a life.

The only news in this piece is a reminder in the uniformly partisan nature of our major press.

We are in the process of growing new communications media, and as we do we are all starting to ignore these people more and more. Their monopoly isn't completley broken, but its started to crack.

RUMSFELD: You like to repeat all that stuff don’t you—on camera?

Did you get it? Let’s make sure you got it. He love that is stuff.

It’s a sure way to get on camera.

He’ll be on the evening news.

He's effectively using American military power to kill terrorists, (the lib's freedom fighters), and win the war against islamofascism. The troops also like him.

I consider Rummy a national treasure, but MoD is not the first in an attempt to run him out of town. MacCain and his company have been after him for years.

And, then there was Rumsfeld to Barbara Starr, CNN Pentagon reporter:

"I'm rather old fashioned, I like to engage my brain before
my mouth."

Priceless! Oh, how they hate Mr. Rumsfeld!

Some things are not knowable, there are things we know, we know; there are things we think we know and there are things we know we don't know... A great Rummy explanation for events in Iraq.

Donald Rumsfeld runs rings around the arrogant self important major media and I'm wondering when the jackels in attendence at the White House press briefings are going to step down and let conservative reporters in to ask some intelligent questions? Its very telling that the major media will not tolerate a reporter in their ranks that has not drank from their hate Bush kool-aid.

I am a major Rumsfeld fan. I just finished a book about his management style "The Rumsfeld Way"...he sounds like a bastard to work for, but he gets results, and doesn't get bogged down by intra-political BS.

That is the person I want running our DOD, and even our country. Too bad he won't run for president. He is a true patriot. Check out my links at my homepage:

Ah, do not forget how they used the INS as their get out the illegal vote in 1996. The clintons used every dime and dollar and by extension every arm of government as their own personal service organizations.

He's not a girlie man. They haven't had to deal with real men for quite sometime. Clinton's entourage consisted only of wishy washy girlie men who didn't know what the word "is" meant. Can you imagine Rumsfeld pondering the word "is"? LOL

MCINTYRE: Mr. Secretary, I’m just curious, do you feel at all embattled at this point in your tenure given the fact that…

RUMSFELD: No.

MCINTYRE: Aside from the retired two two-star general calling you “incompetent” and asking you to step down in an op-ed over the weekend,

you also had a call from Maureen Dowd, in which she quoted an unnamed administration official saying that you don’t hold the same sway in meetings and that you’re treated as “an eccentric old uncle who’s ignored.”

RUMSFELD: You like to repeat all that stuff don’t you—on camera? Did you get it? Let’s make sure you got it. He love that is stuff. It’s a sure way to get on camera.

He’ll be on the evening news.

MCINTYRE: I know you like to have the facts in the premise of the question.

RUMSFELD: Yes, I do. And you did it very well. No.

UNIDENTIFIED MALE: You can do one-arm pushups and put all this to rest.

RUMSFELD: The answer is no.

MCINTYRE: Do you hold the same sway in meetings?

RUMSFELD: Oh, come on. I’m not going to get into that—Pam.

QUESTION: Sir, in your opening statement you said…

RUMSFELD: If you believe everything you read from Maureen Dowd, you’d better get a life.

In the Department of Defense there are:

34 - four star generals/admirals

124 - three star generals/admirals

278 - two star generals/admirals

439 - one star generals/admirals

Throw in the U.S. Coast Guard and you have 900 generals and admirals on active duty today. This is roughly the same number of generals/admirals who were on active duty in WWII when our military was 12,000,000 strong.

Given that on any given year 15-20% of those generals/admirals will retire each year it doesn't take much figuring to realize that the number of generals calling for Secretary Rumsfeld to resign is laughable.
