The good Doctors don't want to come to Florida because they will have deal with the Illegals who do not pay for their medical services but will sue you for malpractice!
My sister went to U of F, then UM then graduated. The next thing she did was pack up her bags and left FL for NC where the insurance wasn't so high.
I think the number one reason there aren't enough doctors is not that they don't get paid enough, but that our system deliberately restricts the number of doctors by limiting the number of available spaces in medical schools. Of course, it is a high pressure job with long hours, but if there were more doctors, that would take the pressure off those that there are, and it would not be nearly as big a concern.
THe problem is not the number of doctors overall, but the number going into primary care, specifically internal medicine. Almost all new physicians trained in internal medicine elect to practice as hospitalists (in hospital care only) or go on for subspecialty traning.
There are very few new physicians electing to practice outpatient internal medicine and there is a definite drop in quality (not all foreign trained physicians are lower quality than American trained, but there is a definite difference in some) in those that are
reasons? long hours, low reimbursement compared to subspecialties or surgical specialties, overregulation, malpractice, etc...
solution? I'm not sure, but the primary care field will have to be made more attractive to attract high quality practitioners.

But there is a shortage of doctors in hospitals too. Look at all the hospitals that have closed in the last 20 years because they could not find enough physicians to staff the hospital adequately. Look at our emergency rooms. They are a disaster.
We used to laugh at the British going to India for surgery, but now Americans are doing it too.
