"Afghanistan's stock just went way up. If the convert can be given safe passage to another country, Afghanistan's stock will continue to soar!"
I am on a totally different page.
If the man could live in peace and safety, in Afghanistan, I would agree thintgs are okay.
But that is not so. If he has to leave his country to be safe, things in Afghanistan are NOT right, islam is NOT a religion of peace.
And beyond searching for terrorists, we should spend no blood trying to modernize, democratize these folks.

I recall a story of how an American black-skinned family was pulled over by a Southern state cop. The police man said to the innocent family, "I can protect you during the day time, but I can't protect you at night. You're welcome to visit us anytime of day, but please leave before the sun goes down."
Was the cop racist? Or did he have the good sense and decency to warn the outsiders that staying in a racist town was deadly?
We've come a long way since the 60s. Every nation has its own history to tend to. Looks like Afghanistan is getting off to the right start. I won't give up hope for the human heart.
Perhaps gentle minds in Afghanistan will remember how the Israelites of old were ruthlessly efficient in carrying out God's will in the Old Testament, but how Jesus' New Covenant has brought a new Way of living. Afghanis aren't dealing with a godless Soviet regime. They are the recipients of American kindness when compared to their past history of foreign visitors. Our presence there seems to be reshaping the once highly xenophobic and highly tribalistic thought process.

I thought the AP was against capital punishment. I guess they changed their mind.

"Better to have Afghanistan under the Taliban, festering with terrorists and blowing up innocent Americans than releasing a Christian from prison?
Logic isn't your strong suit, is it?"
There you go blowing it for me. I was enjoying the logic that we bring our troops home from that muslim country (inspite of the muslem leadership that dropped charges and released the Christian man). We should not have brought them democracy (even though the christian was released just outside of Kabul and the AP had to travel all the way to Mazer-I-Sharif to find a protest). And we should destroy Mecca and Medina (it doesn't matter that they are in a different country, nor does it matter that the AP could only find 1 cleric to quote).

Yes indeed. It was a horrible thing we did in Afghanistan to free these useless people, and give them nothing.
Our military............no our entire COUNTRY..........is so worthless.
Hanging my head in shame here............ ;)
(I'm surprised some of these folks can type, because they sure can't think or read very well..........)

LOL. Maybe I am wrong, but I detected just a wee bit of sarcasm in your response to me.
Thank you for your thoughts.
