Germans are most intelligent Europeans

LONDON: Germans are the most intelligent people in Europe, well ahead of the British (in eighth place) and the French (15th), according to a new study by Northern Ireland’s University of Ulster, The Times reported Monday. With an average intelligence quotient (IQ) of 107, a scintilla of brainpower above the Dutch who also scored 107, the Polish (106), the Swedish (104) and the Italians (102). They all came out better in the intelligence stakes than the British who rated an even 100 IQ according to the study, ahead of the Spanish (98) and the French (94) who could only comfort themselves by checking the study results for Bulgarians, Romanians, the Turkish and Serbians who languished at the bottom of the table on 89. Professor Richard Lynn, who headed the study, caused controversy last year by claiming that men were more intelligent than women by about five IQ points on average. He said of his latest findings that populations in the colder, more challenging environments of Northern Europe had developed larger brains than those in warmer climates further south. The average brain size in Northern and Central Europe is 1,320cc and in southeast Europe it is 1,312cc, according to his studies. AFP

I find it really humorous (and at the same time sad) that Germans are the smartest Europeans.

It's like admitting that the French (with their Jerry Lewis fetish) have the best sense of humor!

No, more like the folks here in The South that claim they are from genuine Cherokee Indian stock removed by at least two generations. No one ever claims to be Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek or any other tribe. Just Cherokee...........

Besides, so what if it takes me a whole 14.28 cc's of brain to think up one IQ point - damn German efficiency anyway!

Hmmm. The professor found the Dutch and Germans both to register 107, and decided that the Germans, not the Dutch, are the smartest.

Hmmm. Northern Europeans are smarter because of the cold weather. That is, no doubt, why frigid Italy is ahead of all of the Scandinavian countries and the UK in this study, but balmy Russia is below them all.

Hmmm. The most intelligent win the wars. So THAT'S why Germany and Austria won World War I and II. I always wondered about that.

But I guess that such higher concepts are beyond the reach of us French peabrains.

Better nutrition has a lot to do with that. Americans with northern European ancestry are taller than people in the old country. Being of scandinavian descent my family is just genetically "tall" though; I'm 6'-8", my dad is 6'-10", and my cousins vary between 6'-4"-6'-6". And my great grand father from Sweden was 7ft tall with bright red hair lol! go figure.

Well, I will say one thing for the German schools, if I am remembering this right . . . When I was stationed in Germany 4 times for a total of 10 years, I was told at some point, like 10th, 11th or 12th grade, some type of testing system identified those students most likely to advance and do better in college. There is an apprenticeship program that takes those students who are deemed not to be on path for higher schooling, and starts directing them into the trades, in order to get some type of training, to be able to make a living, I.E., carpenter, painters, plumbers, electricians, mechanics, etc. I think I am remembering that correctly. Seems, maybe we should do that here. If at say 10th grade a student is just dead bent to quit school or linger and do much of nothing, why not point them towards the trades. Then at least they can maybe learn some type of real marketable skill to sell to an employer. There will always be jobs for those in the trades.
