In a big win for conservatives, Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano has opted not to veto a controversial bill that offers tax credits to businesses that donate to private schools.

Napolitano, a Democrat, informed Republican legislative leaders Wednesday that she would not veto and would let a private school tax credit bill become law without her signature.

The governor vetoed previous versions of the private school tax credit bill earlier this year and last year during budget and education spending disputes with GOP lawmakers. The vetoes soured already tart relations between Napolitano and state Senate President Ken Bennett and House Speaker Jim Weiers.

Big victory for advocates of school choice in Arizona -- even bigger victory for the under-privileged kids who will benefit by finding an escape hatch from the failing government school system. Something to cheer about!

Wow, this poor Dem is going to be burned at the Stake. The NEA is the most powerful wing of the Dem party there is.

The Dem Governor is the sister of Judge Andrew Napolitano (FoxNews Channel) -- I think I prefer the Judge.

Nice post! I will be waiting for the court battle.
My congratulations to those who worked long and hard for this victory. Can we get something like this at the Federal level?

I'm not sure why this is a big deal.. donations to the Private School I went to in the 80's were tax deductable and nobody ever got upset...

You might want to talk with an accountant about the difference between a 'deduction' and a 'credit'.

Maybe you help me understand - is this another way to say vouchers?

This is a big deal because it allows businesses (small and large) take a tax credit for providing a voucher to a needy kid to get a better education. It allows the business to say: I want my state tax dollar devoted to this program -- to educate needy kids. Not only does it "save" a kid from the death-spiral of a lousy educational system, it means better workers and better customers for that (and all other) businesses. Win-Win based on good conservative principles and this kind of program. More states (and Congress) ought to take notice and CARE. But it's one step at a time.

Now I wish they would give me a tax credit for this as we pay out of own pockets to send our kids to private school.
