The Associated Press reported:
"Mr. Boudai said the sources claimed Carroll, who was abducted in Baghdad on Jan. 7, "is in a safe house owned by one of the kidnappers in downtown Baghdad with a group of women."
He said the sources also claimed Carroll was in good psychological condition and was doing housework with the women in the place of her detention. The sources also said the kidnappers denied killing Carroll's translator when they abducted her at gunpoint ...
An editorial calling for the release of Jill Carroll ran in Wednesday's edition of Baghdad's New Sabah newspaper. It was written by the paper's editor in chief, Ismael Zayer. Some excerpts:
"American freelance journalist Jill Carroll, who used the name Zainab in Iraq, has been held by kidnappers since Jan. 7. Jill loves Iraq and Iraqis. She is known for her independent thinking...."
Zainab is "Daughter of Fatima," not "Daughter of Muhammad."
Zainab was perhaps the oldest of Muhammad's daughters. By the time of the Hijra (the getaway to Madina in 622) she was married to a non-Muslim man so she did not follow her father to Madina. But when her husband was taken prisoner after the Battle at Badr in 626 CE (4 H), Muhammad had him freed after Zainab had promised to come to Madina. Her husband was taken prisoner again in 628, and once again freed by Zainab's intercession. He became a Muslim the following year, and was reunited with his wife. Zainab had two children, Ali that died as a child, and Umama that married Ali after Fatima died.
I seriously doubt it. She had been in Jordan for one year before going to Iraq. The Jordan Times is in english. I have visited Jordan. English is widely spoken due to the British influence.
I have lived in Saudi Arabia for five years. You just don't pick up Arabic. In the foreign service, diplomats are trained for six months in the US and then spend another year in Tunisa to learn Arabic. Even after that, you are no where near fluent. Whatever her friends may have said about her fluency, it is all hyperbole. How could they possibly know what her level was? From what I have read from her writings, Carroll had a rather inflated opinion of herself and her abilities as a reporter. She was just a stringer paid by the story.

However; in some books like “Ibn Shahr Ashoob” and “An explanation on Nahjolbilaqih”, one can find out that it was her sister that was called “Umm Kulthum the major.” “Umm Abdullah” and "Umm-ul-Hasan” are among her many other names.
It is worthy to say that according to the Arabian tradition at that time, the many names were determined for an individual in his or her early childhood.

Her multidimensional character had led to the existence of many names for her, some of them are explained in the following:
Lady Zaynab (A.S) was called “ Banihashem’s Aqileh" and “Aqileh Talebin” in which Aqileh means the virtuous lady who is treated dearly among the members of the family and in her progeny. Her other names are: “Sadiqeh", “Esmat-e Soqra (Esmat, the minor)”, “Mahbubat-ul- Mostafa”, “ Sharikat ul Hosein”, “Zahedeh” (the virtuous lady), "Aqeleh" (the wise lady), and so on.

The interesting thing is she must be an embarrassment to the American media. I would like to make her the symbol of the media in Iraq. The media will try to change the subject. Her crying and weeping, her collaboration.
But truly, if it is found that she staged her kidnapping, the FBI should charge her. That will stop her nonsense.
I think the US media in Iraq knew she was a flake.
Wow, I didn't expect to see so many people on this site upset that they didn't kill her, but sadly, I'm not all that surprised. Some people need hostage deaths for their propaganda, I guess. People not dying is generally good news and I, for one, am pleased she's free again.
Time will tell. We never did convict Jane fonda of being a traitor either, but I think most of us have accepted that fact. IMO she and Jane are sisters.
What I've seen that has bothered me is that representatives of the Christian Science Monitor, in addition to our military, have worked tirelessly for months for her release even though she was a free-lance writer. Yet, from what I can tell, the first colleagues she called upon release were from the Washington Post. I heard one of them talking about it yesterday morning at CNN. They sent a reporter to talk to her about the time the rest of us were just hearing the news. She has a lot of people to thank for her release and they may not be the ones which come to her mind. But we'll see as her story unfolds.
That is a ridiculous statement. No one wants the lady dead.
