Mexican leftist's lead narrows in election poll (EDUCATE YOURSELF ALERT!)
Reuters via Yahoo! News ^ | March 28, 2006

Mexican leftist presidential front-runner Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's lead slipped slightly in a poll released on Monday, after widening in other recent polls ahead of July elections.

The new poll by Consulta Mitofsky gave Lopez Obrador 38 percent of the expected vote -- seven points more than his nearest rival, conservative ruling party candidate Felipe Calderon.

The survey showed Calderon and Institutional Revolutionary Party candidate Roberto Madrazo gaining one point each to 31 and 29 percent respectively.

Mexico's election race has turned dirty in recent weeks as Calderon and Madrazo have tried to tarnish Lopez Obrador's image with personal attacks in television spots and campaign speeches.

Political analysts say it is too early to tell whether the negative campaigning is bringing his rivals results.

Only preliminary results of the poll were released on Monday. Pollsters did not say when the survey was taken, how many people were interviewed or what the margin of error was.

If Bush doesn't back Fox at least in words, his guy will lose in July and we get a Chavez-Castro Ally.

The U.S. gets 40% of its' oil from Mexico and Venezuela.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador supports no legal immigration policies.

Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador makes Vincente Fox and his party a Conservative Dream date.

I've heard a theory that the reason Bush has a "falta de huevos" on immigration is that he fears a revolution in Mexico that would result in a Chavez/Castro/Che Guevera type being in charge down there.
But we defeated Santa Anna, didn't we?
April 21 is San Jacinto Day.

Why can't the U.S. get the 40% of oil from another source?
What does importing millions of their people here do to enhance us getting that 40% of oil?

I'm for a crackdown and think the Senate Bill is a joke.

I also believe that people who bash President Bush for using complementary language with Vicente Fox are borderline retarded.

The President can not speak like you and I and unlike you and I he is aware that Fox's party may well lose to a socialist who is aligned with Castro and Chavez.

You do not have to like the rhetoric of the President but recognize his seat is not your lawn chair.

Honestly, from a purely American viewpoint, we'd probably be best served to have the PRI back in power.

Fox's PAN is more nationalist and as such, are a Mexico-First party, to our detriment.

Lopez Obrador's party is international socialists (aka, communists). Having them in power is good for neither Mexicans nor Americans. It would likely make Lula da Silva in Brazil and Chavez in Venezuela quite happy, though.

If a communist gets in down there, illegal immigration is going to be the LEAST of our worries. You have to understand that there is more to things that just the surface. The mass demos the last few days should tell you just how dangerous this all is.

I want a wall.

I want the sex offenders and murderers thrown out.

I think those who have been here illegally for more than 20 years should get a path to citizenship over time.

Everyone else should be deported.

What would help this effort is an educated debate rather than whining from the uneducated feckless who react to every word of a President who is light years better than most?

I will not take the botanist approach to conservatism.

President Bush will no more have to worry about installing walls down the border, if leftist government is formed and Fox stepping down.

Those demonstrations were a pathetic joke.

Half a million here, a hundred thousand there.

There are 300 million in this country.

France had a million protesters and there country is 60 million.

This paltry display is going to do more to kill illegal immigration than make it acceptable.

Good, let the Commie win.

Maybe THEN, with a 'sworn enemy' to the USA and 'democracy' in office, Dubya will wake the 'heck' up and put the military on the GD border and build a freaking wall.

And if we got real lucky the nut job Commie would declare war on us.

Research by the non-profit Pew Hispanic Center shows that the number of illegal immigrants in the United States has exploded from some 3.5 million in 1990 to more than 10 million today. Roll your mouse over a state to see estimated figures from 1990 and 2004, the latest year for which estimates are available.

This shift to the far left is bound to happen in Mexico. In the hope of letting off peasant pressure to avoid the election of a commie in Mexico, our leaders have been supporting the open border illegal thing.

There is no stopping it. Illiterate poor people are easily swept up by the economic jealously and resentment of radicals promising "social justice." It is an uninformed mob action kind of like the Mexican protests in our country condemning Bush when it is Bush that is demanding an open border. They just do what they are told by the most hysterical and emotional leaders without the ability to even review what they are being told is true.

The Left in Mexico HATES the US just like our own leftists do and they will do all they can to undermine our democracy and to harm us economically.

When it comes down to it, however, I think we will make it without Mexico's oil better than Mexico will make it without our money and jobs. There are other opportunities for oil. The Mexican mobs actually beleive that they are vital to American survival and putting their money on that piece of propaganda is going to be painful for Mexicans - not Americans.

The new poll by Consulta Mitofsky gave Lopez Obrador 38 percent of the expected vote...

Can you get elected with a plurality in Mexico, or would there be a runoff if no one got a majority?
