The Ridge Faction sold out the Cherokee, by usurping the authority of Cherokee President Ross, and signing a treaty with the US that exchanged Cherokee land for land in Oklahoma. Because of that treachery, the Cherokee were sentenced to the "Trail of Tears".
Following in the footsteps of his Uncle, Stand Watie was tried to again sell out the Cherokee to the Confederates. He attacked Cherokee President Ross, and send many young men to their deaths. When the battles against their brothers were done, he went to Richmond, to assure that he would be benefit from the transfer of Oklahoma land from Amerinds to slave owners, that would take place after the successful conclusion of the Rebellion.
