55 Square mile area affected in Charleston SC by Water Main Break

The break is at Turkey Creek. The 48 inch pipe is over the marsh and no ones knows how it happened.

This comes at the time when we have The Cooper River Bridge Run, the Azalea Festival, the Cajun Festival, and a few other high profile events happening.

The water pressure here simply dropped for a while. Others in the area were with out. They have managed to divert water into other feeds. What is going to cause a problem is in the morning, the restaurants can't re-open to serve food without the permission of DHEC. There isn't an empty hotel room in the tri-country area, so I guess that everyone will be coming to Summerville for food and then back to CHarleston for the Bridge run.

Lol, I was just thinking I'd better get the hurrican preparedness kit ready early this year and put in a few extra chocolate bars...

A few of us are working on a preparedness thread. I imagine the FReepers in hurricane & country areas don't need it, but if you have something to add, we'd sure appreciate it.

A good source of fresh water is to drain your water heater. Flush a little bit to make sure it is clean. I would also recommend using a water filter if you have it.

Everyone should have an emergency kit put together. Having dealt with hurricanes of all sorts, it's mandatory.

We've got a sewer main break here on Oahu and the mayor has the city dumping UNTREATED SEWAGE into the canal that empties into the ocean about 1/2 mile from Waikiki. So far about 15 million gallons have been dumped. PEW!!!!!

Every time Atlanta, Georgia has a sewer foul up, they usually dump about 500 million gallons of raw sewage into the Chattahoochee River, which flows into Lake West Point. The property values for a lake front lot's are about as cheap as they come in the state of Georgia. These sewer dumps seem to happen about twice a year, which means Lake West point is quickly becoming an open septic tank. This river eventually dumps into the Apalachicola Bay, in the Gulf of Mexico where some of the best eating Oysters used to come from,
