Just got home from work, and was listening to Joe Crummy on KFYI interview one of the dads of the kids that burned the Mexican flag:
Apparently, his kid was arrested by AJ Police and was held in detention in Florence all day yesterday. CHarged with Arson. It took all of their savings to get a retainer for an atty.
It gets better. The family is now getting death threats. They were informed by police that there are those trying to find out where the family lives, and are going after them. AJ police stated to the father, there is nothing they can do about it, until someone actually shows up on their property.
Also, there was another kid from the school (Rod, who said he was a "future" Marine) read that letter from the school, forbiding any kid to wear any article of clothing resembling or representing a flag, no matter what country it represents.
He said emphatically, that he *will* wear the US Flag to school Monday.
Apparently this flag burning was near the ROTC table.
My respect for the kids in AJ have grown a hundred fold!

Had he burned an american flag they'd all be supporting him.
That tells me all I need to know.
Any idea how we can help this courageous lad out ?
so... burning the Mexican flag is not political speech but "arson"
we are screwn, kids.
Where do we contribute to his legal defense fund?
This is preposterous! And outrageous!
And mean and evil and just plain nasty!
But it's okay to burn the American flag?
Don't ya just love the hypocrisy.
Does anyone doubt that had he burned an American flag he'd have been charged with nothing?
When was the last time someone burned a flag in protest and got arrested for arson?
Apparently, his kid was arrested by AJ Police and was held in detention in Florence all day yesterday.
I hate to ask because it will sound like splitting hairs, but was the flag burning indoors or outdoors? Makes a difference, though in no way is it arson as far as I understand that word. Isn't arson burning down a structure? If inside I can understand the charge if the school caught on fire and trucks were needed, but as far as I know that isn't the case.
Legal defense? He shouldn't need it. This is freedom of speech!
The mexican flag was first raised over the American flag on the flagpole before it was burned. This kid deserves a medal.
What? No hate crime charges???
Has Tancredo been briefed on this?
This kid needs to get a community service award!
The problem here is that he didn't burn his own property. It belonged to someone else. The Hate-America-First liberals buy their own flags (made in China, LOL), and then burn them.
I thought that numerous courts have ruled it to be OK under the first Amendment.
