Just got home from work, and was listening to Joe Crummy on KFYI interview one of the dads of the kids that burned the Mexican flag:
Apparently, his kid was arrested by AJ Police and was held in detention in Florence all day yesterday. CHarged with Arson. It took all of their savings to get a retainer for an atty.
It gets better. The family is now getting death threats. They were informed by police that there are those trying to find out where the family lives, and are going after them. AJ police stated to the father, there is nothing they can do about it, until someone actually shows up on their property.
Also, there was another kid from the school (Rod, who said he was a "future" Marine) read that letter from the school, forbiding any kid to wear any article of clothing resembling or representing a flag, no matter what country it represents.
He said emphatically, that he *will* wear the US Flag to school Monday.
Apparently this flag burning was near the ROTC table.
My respect for the kids in AJ have grown a hundred fold!

Had he burned an american flag they'd all be supporting him.
That tells me all I need to know.
Any idea how we can help this courageous lad out ?

You try this with any (your lib protestor group here) and you will be sued for violating their free "speech" rights.

I hate to ask because it will sound like splitting hairs, but was the flag burning indoors or outdoors? Makes a difference, though in no way is it arson as far as I understand that word. Isn't arson burning down a structure? If inside I can understand the charge if the school caught on fire and trucks were needed, but as far as I know that isn't the case.

The mexican flag was first raised over the American flag on the flagpole before it was burned. This kid deserves a medal.

The problem here is that he didn't burn his own property. It belonged to someone else. The Hate-America-First liberals buy their own flags (made in China, LOL), and then burn them.
To: lowbridge
I thought I heard some of the Mexifornians burning an American Flag during one of their marches, and no one was going to be prosecuted...is that true? I thought when the flag was burned in the 60's it was "free Speech?" So is it only a crime if someone burns the Mexican flag, because that act, as an expression of speech, is not free?
I would take this to trial all the way am make the jury decide this one. It has to be an unanimous verdict of guilty. I'd say his odds are good.
Who will let him recover the cost of his defense, which is the biggest punishment he'll see?

It's public school property, where a fishstick is a gun, an aspirin is cocaine, and arson means whatever they want it to.

Great point. Understand that its quite hard to wrap your mind around. You want so hard to not think educators are idiots, but they throw stuff like this at us constantly, and make little real sense.
To: mortal19440
I thought so too. Are some flags more equal than others? If you get my drift.
To: sonsofliberty2000
I'm gonna have to go check the other links, because this sounds unusual given the little I know about Apache Junction....it's an outlying suburb of Mesa, which in turn is a suburb of Phoenix - my impression of a few days there is that it's a pretty much Whitebread, retiree, "trailer people" kind of burg.
The demographics as I know 'em make the story a little confusing to me...

The only difference between a hate crime and a non-hate crime is the assumed thought process in the mind of the actor...therefore, thought is a crime.
A slug in the nose because you are ugly is punished less severely than a slug in the nose with an animous toward your victim's race. The acts are the same. The damage is the same. Now values are fair game for punishment.
Once values are fair game, Orwell's "1984" is here. We're only 20 years behind the title. Political thought will be next in line for definition as a hate crime.
