"extending DST longer and longer every year, until it lasts for the entire year. "

Guess what?

"During World War II, President Franklin Roosevelt instituted year-round Daylight Saving Time, called “War Time,” from February 2, 1942 to September 30, 1945. "

I'm a late riser, and I like having the extra hour of daytime that I get from DST. I live far on the eastern side of my time zone and I'm tired of it being dark at 5:30.

I guess I'm the only one.

No you aren't. That is the good part of the DST, that while everyone has to get up an hour earlier, but after work, there is still some daylight left.

But that doesn't make it any easier to get up an hour earlier.

I could not agree with you MORE about the Daylight Savings nonsense. I absolutely HATE it and, even as a little kid, could never see the point of it.

But isn't it more natural to spring back and fall forward?

The only thing I'm grateful for about DST is the longer Friday, which gives me the extra hr. to prepare for the Jewish Sabbath. Otherwise, I see no point in it.

The twice-a-year NATIONAL STUPIDITY TEST. This all started because a bunch of damned yankees wanted extra daylight to play in once they gained the 40-hour work week. We should stop screwing around with people's timepieces, and let those that choose to just figure out how to get to work early.

we could propose year-round dst as a way to honor FDR. then no one would have the nerve to oppose it.
we could explain that it will stop global warming, save the environment, increase business productivity, lower taxes, save social security, and strengthen the military.

DST is to the advantage of late risers, since the "saved" time is actually stolen from the morning and added to the evening. Fact is, you'd have to be an extremely early riser to enjoy the extra hour of daylight on standard time.

Fine, then leave it on DST. Just leave it ALONE.

That's true, except for the large Navajo reservation in northeastern Arizona, which does observe DST.

Mouse over the northeastern corner of Arizona (on the map in the site below) and you'll see what I mean about DST on the reservation.

http://www.time.gov/

This site may be especially helpful for you, wai-ming, since you make frequent calls to the US; it tells the current time in any of the US time zones.

Thanks to Mitch Daniels, Indiana's worst governor ever, we now have to play this stupid game. The day his one term governorship ends will be the greatest day in Indiana history since it became a state. The sigh of relief here will be so great that it will push the jetstream south.

He's widely disliked. I see about 5 "not my man" bumper stickers each day during my commute. People in my hometown have begun displaying their campaign yard signs for him, only now they've put a big X through his name.

They took a poll, most people were very much against the switch, and they ramrodded it through anyway. He proposed a tax increase on the rich that didn't make it. He sold out to the Irsays for a taxpayer funded stadium, all the while talking about everyone tightening their belts because the state is broke.

I voted Gividen, the libertarian, because Mitch just seemed fishy during the campaign. He was vague on things, and he just had statist written all over him. It will be nice to see him go in 2008. I don't think we'll get rid of DST, but it will be nice to fire the person that forced it on us.
