Sheehan slated to speak [Friday, April 7th at San Francisco’s Lowell High School]

FRANCISCO - Peace activist Cindy Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq, is scheduled to speak to students at San Francisco’s Lowell High School this Friday — to the chagrin of at least one parent.

Sheehan is scheduled to speak for approximately 45 minutes at an optional morning assembly that students can attend with their teacher’s permission, according to Lowell Principal Paul Cheng. Sheehan’s visit was arranged by students in the school’s Revolution Youth group, an after-school club.

When parent Matt Mitguard, who has two children at Lowell, heard about the visit, he contacted Cheng to express concern about the school hosting an assembly featuring one point of view on the war and asked if a counter-point speaker could also be asked to participate.

“The left-wing agenda is rammed down your throat here, so kids with a different point of view are not going to speak up,” said Mitguard. “The onus is on the district to provide balance.”

Principal Paul Cheng said he was not opposed to having a speaker that supported the United States’ military action in Iraq come to the school, but also felt confident that students could hear only Sheehan and understand that she represented just one point of view.

Parents don't have a say in San Francisco, Mr. Mitguard

the school’s Revolution Youth group

Does the school tolerate an after-school Bible study club? I doubt it... Marxism si, Christianity no.

San Francisco needs to go away . . . far, far away.

If it's an after-school group, why is the school allowing their agenda to interfere during school hours?

"MY son Casey, DIED for the SINS of George W. Bush, wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah, I miss him SO much (that the beeotch hasn't even used Casey's insurance money to buy him a headstone for his grave) not ANOTHER mother's son, blah-blah-blah-blah-blah..."

Just a loop of tape going 'round and 'round and 'round would suffice, eh Comrade Sheehan?

The school and the Marxist group share the same agenda.

She is talking where , do they get federal tax money? No federal tax money for anybody who accepts anti war activists, with out any rebuttal from our troops and their representives. It is my money and if a school accepts my tax dollars our troops and the pro adminstration side should be there also.

Revolution Youth Group? It sounds as if the communists own the school.

From Wikipedia: Lowell High School is distinguished among the public schools of San Francisco as the only one using a competitive merit-based admissions process based on a point system which takes standardized test scores, GPA, a writing sample, and extracurricular activities into account. Lowell's academic success is due to the stringent requirements placed upon admission, and at present, Lowell High School is ranked 3rd in terms of test scores among the Top 10 Public Schools in California....

San Francisco frets about families leaving. Officials hold meetings, form commissions, write reports. But they still can't find the answer.

Don't worry, it has been completely destroyed by a Smug Storm:

No, a parent's wishes always take precedence over a teacher's wishes. If parents don't want their child to attend, they don't have to attend.

Yes, Agape, which is quite popular. There is also a Young Republican's club as well.

Lowell is different from traditional public schools as it operates on a modular schedule that is similar to how colleges operate. While some students may be in class, others have those mods off to do homework, study, meet with teachers, and meet with school clubs. Thus, the school clubs can schedule activities during school hours, and invite teachers who may want to bring their classes(hence, optional assembly).
