Abebooks ^ | March 2006

Posted on 04/01/2006 11:11:55 AM PST by RightGeek is a web site where used booksellers list their books for resale on the Web. They are located in Canada but have a huge USA bookseller and customer base. To celebrate their 10th anniversary, they thought it would be swell to have a contest where booksellers would pass out special bookmarks in their orders and at local libraries and community centers featuring an slam on President Bush (see below). You might care to suggest to them that their efforts are shall we say, misdirected via the links at .  The full contest page is below.

Abebooks 10 Year Anniversary Campaign - Promo Packs

Abebooks is celebrating our 10 year anniversary this spring and we are offering our largest promotional package ever!

We've just launched our new ad campaign "If you can't find it here, it doesn't exist" to great response. The bookmark will carry 2 different creative executions: one for general booksellers and consumers, and one for the antiquarian market. The tounge-in-cheek campaign has been designed to allow us to address different themes that are specific to various publications and events.

Order Promo Items and WIN Instant Prizes!

Every bookseller who orders and distributes Abebooks Anniversary materials will have the chance to win instant prizes such as digital cameras, scanners, office & mailing supplies, free subscriptions on your bookseller account and much more, courtesy of Abebooks and our partners like Brodart.

Anniversary promo packages will include themed bookmarks highlighting the anniversary campaign and our online instant win contest. Each bookmark will have a unique contest code imprinted on the back. Customers will be encouraged to visit to enter their contest code to see if they are an instant winner. The best part is, we are able to track each winning code back to the bookseller it came from so when your customer wins, you win a prize too. The more bookmarks you distribute, the better your chances of winning!

Tips on how to distribute your collateral for maximum exposure:

Packages will be mailed out at the end of April for receipt by May 15, 2006. Thank you for taking the time to order your collateral and taking part in our 10 year celebration!

Was GWB responsible for the spelling of "Berkley" on the reverse of their anti-GWB bookmark?

ABE doesn't offer the books - the booksellers do.

But ABE has created the anti-Bush bookmarker!

I have written a complaint email to them as I have used their service quite a few times. In fact, I have an order pending as we speak!

Here is the "automated response"

This is an automated response to your inquiry. This information resolves most inquiries of this nature, but if the information contained in this e-mail does not address or resolve your problem, please e-mail us for further assistance from a Customer Support Representative.

Thank you for contacting Abebooks Customer Support with your feedback about our new advertising campaign.

Our new campaign has two objectives. The first is to grab the reader's attention through the pure surprise and entertainment value of a unique book that doesn't seem real, and thereby inspire conversation and discussion. The second is to send a very simple message: Abebooks booksellers have a vast selection of books.

The campaign consists of a series of six ads using fictional titles, some by well known "authors."

The "Whoops! I was Wrong" title by G.W. Bush is not a real book, and the title can be interpreted in different ways. We realize this is controversial, but our testing showed it was unlikely to be offensive. We're confident it will achieve our objectives and lead to discussion.

We're sorry if you found the "Book" objectionable in any way, and we hope you'll enjoy some of the other book images more. Abebooks booksellers really do have the largest selection of new, used, rare and out of print books!
