Bloomberg: Illegals needed to take care of golf courses
worldnetdaily ^ | April 2, 2006 | unknown

Posted on 04/02/2006 3:50:39 AM PDT by ovrtaxt

While Congress debates immigration reform, weighing proposals ranging from making it a felony to be in the U.S. illegally, to building a wall along the border with Mexico, to adopting a guest worker program that leads to full citizenship, New York City's billionaire mayor Michael Bloomberg has weighed in against deporting illegal aliens because they are the ones who take care of the golf courses.

Bloomberg, who co-hosts a Friday radio talk show on WABC, was discussing the controversial immigration bills in Congress that have resulted in protests across the nation when he was asked to name a typical menial job an illegal immigrant might do. The mayor, an avid duffer, immediately thought of golf.

"You and I are beneficiaries of these jobs," Bloomberg told his co-host, John Gambling. "You and I both play golf. Who takes care of the greens and the fairways in your golf course?"

"Nobody wants to deport them, in the end, because people need them to take these jobs and do the things that nobody else is doing," Bloomberg said, also claiming 25 percent of illegal aliens are farm workers and many work in home health care.

Bloomberg, who has been criticized in the past for what some see as an elitist image, came under fire for his golf comments from a spokeswoman for the New York Immigration Coalition, an alliance of 150 immigration groups that organized a march of thousands of protesters across the Brooklyn Bridge yesterday.

"It would be smarter for [Bloomberg] to talk about other contributions and other aspects that immigrants contribute to make our culture so rich and vibrant," Chung-Wha Hong told the New York Daily News. "I'd encourage him to talk about more than economic reasons, or simply coming to this [issue] from a corporate viewpoint."

A year ago, the New York Times reported that a "group of power brokers" had privately warned Bloomberg to "erase his image as an elitist billionaire and show that he cares about the concerns of average New Yorkers."

"The perception of Mr. Bloomberg as one of the city's wealthiest men, governing from on high, also obscures his record in office and his true self, as a man coming from nothing to build a communications empire," the advisers said.

Taking issue with the mayor's facts was Robert Heaney, general manager of Deepdale Golf Club on Long Island, where Bloomberg often plays.

"Deepdale Golf Club has always been in 100% compliance with all immigration laws, and it is absolutely our policy to remain in compliance with all immigration laws," Heaney said.

A spokesman for Bloomberg insisted the mayor stood by his golf comments.

"There are a lot of people taking positions to his left or his right who frankly don't like the mayor's straight talk on immigration policy," he said. "Even when people don't agree with the mayor, they like that he calls it like it is and is free to speak his mind independently."

Bloomberg also voiced support, for the first time, for a proposal to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, a measure denounced by many supporters of illegal immigration.

With the greens fees he and his buddies are paying, one would think the course would be able to afford to hire American citizens. So, was he a good citizen and report his country club to ICE? No? I didn't think so. He just proved what an arse he is.

The USA has been sending it's manufacturing jobs to China, and is now sending the techinical jobs to India, and there are college trained people in the USA who can find no job at all. Now the USA wants to even give it's little jobs away. America, our leaders are destroying us, and no outside country even has to try, for we will self destruct if given time.

Bloomberg better watch it. He's getting pretty close to; "Why, some of my best friends are illegal immigrants" at which point he will have descended into a perfect caricature of a condescending, smug, elitist fool.
But maybe that's why he remains popular with New Yorkers; he reflects their own views and values.

Obviously an attempt to curtail illegal immigration. He's letting people know that if they come here illegally they'll never end up better than a grounds keeper for the rich.

Who takes care of the greens and the fairways in your golf course?

Well, when I was growing up, our local course had a head greens-keeper, his full time assistant, several school kids after class, and a couple of college kids making good summer wages to pay for tuition. All of them were Americans and could use the money. Somehow or other, the course was always well manicured.

Of course, that's all changed now. We expect to use cheap illegal labor and instead let the high school kids roam the malls with credit cards and the college kids to get subsidized college tuitions or take out loans which take years to pay back.

These used to be great outside jobs for Americans who worked hard and could use the money. In fact, they were coveted jobs, especially for the young, and always had a waiting list!

How did such a stupid guy end up with so much money?

Because he ain't stupid.

This is the little 'secret' that isn't secret about the whole illegal emigrant debate. He is just voicing what all the rich folk know and why they are not against the illegals. It’s all about cheap labor. Pay the their groundskeepers, their maids, their cooks, their handymen, etc. $4 an hour. That’s why they stay rich.

He might be a fool, but he’s not stupid.

We need more to do this kind of "straight talk"

Yes, my fellow americans, the kind of immigration policy we need is to bring in all the poor, ignorant third worlders from our socialist neighbors to clean our toilets and mow our grass! Also, it helps if their allegiance is to their home country and they really just want the money! Yes, thats it, thats the new "legal" immigration policy for america

If they had to put it that way, it'd be 98% against. Instead they just look the other way and have a regular amnesty program to make them citizens(read vote for dims)

I actually have a very good friend who works on the groundskeeping staff at a golf course. He is an American and he appreciates the job...as do his other American friends who work at that golf course. Bloomberg wants him to be displaced by an illegal Mexican? My friend has a wife and two children he supports with his golf course job.

These Americans are doing the jobs Americans would like to continue to do if our President and his RINO friends would stop trying to throw Americans out into the streets to give illegals jobs. George W. Bush and Michael Bloomberg want to replace our law-abiding American friends and neighbors with criminal Mexicans.

I would like to know how much of NYC and other big city budgets is federal funds allocated on the basis of population. I think that is why we have sanctuary cities. Anyway, there are not any golf courses in Manhattan, anyway.

NYC has 10 or 12 public golf courses spread out in Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island.

NYC has a net loss as far as the Fed gubmint is concerned. We receive about 80 cents for every dollar in Federal taxes we pay.

The Hispanics and Latinos in much of the Southwest aren't the minimal $4/hr laboror anymore.

On the contrary, nearly all of the Hispanic tradesmen I've worked with in the last 10 years tend to perceive they've been getting taken advantage of, pay attention to market rates, and charge fulll market minus a tad, but fail to incorporate many of the costs that drive up the standard market rate.

Thanks, I know about that, but it is beside the point. It would, in fact, argue for more population as a way to adjust the yield. I never have understood why people expect to get their money back. Seems to me it would be smarter to keep it than send it to Washington, in the first place. But I think city politicians want to hold onto every person, because that is the way fed funds are calculated. Contrast that with the tradition of running people out by counselling, "Go West Young Man.."

Some people may not agree with this, but this statement proves we have a society every bit as classed based as one in Medieval times. The wealthy write the laws, and they make darn sure that all laws, whether they deal with taxes or immigration favor THEM and their way of life. If you are a working stiff, all you can do is bite the pillow. The refusal to drain the "pond" of illegal immigration by cracking down on those who hire illegal immigrants (and that would take imposing drug-kingpin style penalites on those who hire them) proves that the wealthy elites still control the reins on this issue.

Want to bet that Bloomberg has Mexicans cleaning his house, landscaping his yard and detailing his car? Would he ask them if they live in some run-down flophouse? Would he even care? I suspect the greatest defense of unchecked immigration will come from the country club elite.

Anyway, there are not any golf courses in Manhattan, anyway.

Bloomberg is mayor of NYC, not the burrough president of Manhatten. Meaning that he's mayor of Manhatten, Staten Island, Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx. While the best country clubs are up in Westchester County, outside of NYC, NYC has at least 12 public courses, as well as a number of driving ranges, all run by the city. And Manhatten doesn't have a golf course, there is a driving range on Randall's Island.

Exactly right, we are now governed by a ruling class for a ruling class. Nothing illustrates this fact better then this illegal immigration issue. Cheap illegal labor hurts America's working and middle classes but helps the elitest ruling class so we get cheap illegal labor.
