FORMER heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson visited Mao Zedong's mausoleum in a token of respect to add to the Mao tattoo on his arm and his personal book collection of the father of Chinese communism.
A long-time admirer, Tyson confessed to feelings of inadequacy when gazing upon Mao's remains on Saturday.
"I felt really insignificant next to the remains of Chairman Mao," the China Daily on Monday quoted Tyson as telling the Beijing News, adding that it was a great honour to visit the memorial hall.
Tyson bought several books on Mao before shouting "I love you!" to Chinese onlookers as he left the mausoleum.
The boxer says his special interest stems from reading Mao's selected works while serving a prison sentence for rape in the 1990s.
Tyson's Beijing pilgrimage followed a visit to Shanghai to promote a new night club.
"I felt really insignificant next to the remains of Chairman Mao,"
LOL
Love Tyson. I love the man.
(No fan of Mao, however.)
Mike should feel insignificant.. only bites years... Mao murdered, what, at least 50 million people?
Believe it, you are!
"I felt really insignificant next to the remains of Chairman Mao,"
look at it on the bright side Mikey.. at least you bit off a couple of ears.. something Mao surely did not himself do.
Here in the U.S. he lived the American dream, becoming heavyweight champion of the world and pocketing tens of millions of dollars in the process. But with liberty comes responsibility, and the immature Tyson just couldn't handle the latter.
Unfortunately I think about a third of Americans think this is a great.
This guy has been punched too many times.
I don't think the punches have anything to do with it.
What do you love about him? His elbowing? Arm twists? Head butts? Or is it the ear biting? It couldn't be his boxing. He's been getting his butt whopped by second-stringers for 15 years. Did you see the McBride fight? The man was laughing at Tyson, took Tyson's best punches and didn't even bother to cover up or shake it off.
So this man converted to Islam and fell in love with Communists while he was in prison.
Great.
Might as well go visit Lenin next... I'm sure he'll get a kick out of that.
There's a recently published and highly acclaimed book out (Mao:The Unknown Story by Chang & Halliday) which claims that he was directly and indirectly responsible for about 70 million deaths. Tyson's a nice guy but let's face it -- he's taken too many blows on the scull!

They tell you he's a mummy - don't you make that bright mistake:
I tell you - he's a dummy; aye, a fiction and a fake.
This eye beheld the bloody bomb that bashed him on the bean.
I heard the crash, I saw the flash, yet . . . there he lies serene.
And by the roar that rocked the Tomb I ask: how could that be?
But if you doubt that deed of doom, just go yourself and see.
You think I'm mad, or drunk, or both . . . Well, I don't care a damn:
I tell you this: their Lenin is a waxen, show-case SHAM.
Such was the yarn he handed me,
Down there in Casey's Bar,
That Rooshun bug with the scrambled mug
From the land of the Commissar.
It may be true, I leave it you
To figger out how far.

Confirms that Tyson is every bit as stupid as he looks and acts.
Hey Mike?
What if Mao had killed millions of blacks, instead of Chinese in his ill-fated "Great Leap Forward"?
You would still be insignificant, true enough.
LOL
"I felt really insignificant next to the remains of Chairman Mao," the China Daily on Monday quoted Tyson..."
Well that is telling, isn't it. A heavyweight boxer feeling insignificant next to a corpse. Just two stages of maggot bait.
Why do I doubt Tyson actually said this...
Perhaps he should consider getting a picture of Chairman Mao tatooed on the other side of his face then.
I think it is time he should just fade to Bolivia.

"So this man converted to Islam and fell in love with Communists while he was in prison."
Good summation. I used to like Tyson back when he was number one, but then we all got to see what an idiot he is.
Entirely correct -- Tyson is dopey. But "Iron Mike"!
That's Ditka! Not Tyson.
Not his boxing- his angry, tortured life. Sure he was stupid, but that's a personal problem that you don't tease people over... he's plain dumb, and people pick on him for it. People right here are doing it. Don King used him, some confused little tramp sent him to prison (obviously I do not believe he raped anyone). After all that, he's just a fun loving-guy who wants to be left alone.
But people need to feel better about themselves, so they mock his every breath in life to this day.
"I'll eat your children!!" shouted Mike Tyson, professional boxer and fun loving man about town.
Yours is the funniest post I have read so far this morning.
I am sure that publicly judging your own life at its worst would be equally humerous.
Confuscious say, "Boxer who bite off ear and go to prison for rape is maybe not best judge of character."
You're sure....wow!! That is impressive. What is the basis of this confident certainty?
This is a public stage. Please illustrate.
I didn't know Tyson could read. He should try trading "Mao, the Untold Story". He will love Mao even more after reading this.
Shows what you get when you teach a lump of clay to read. Mike is awed to be near Mao's remains? Why, because Mao killed about 50,000,000 of his own citizens? I guess that kinda sets the bar pretty high for this nitwit gang-banger.
Tyson bites !
...who bites off ears and assaults people -- when he's not serving time in prison.
But some people give him a pass. I guess it makes them feel better about themselves.
The context for that was that of a brutish boxing match. Hence no prison is warranted.
"But some people give him a pass. I guess it makes them feel better about themselves."
My feelings for myself are warm yet unrelated to the example you gave. I am not the one picking on men who lack mental ability, in spite of their otherwise good nature.
Not gonna go there, wouldn't be prudent.

This was just last August...
From the Mike Tyson Time Line --
Sept. 2, 1998 - Richard Hardick filed an assault charge against Tyson. Hardick says he was kicked in the groin by Tyson after his car rear-ended a Mercedes driven by Tyson's wife, Monica, on Aug. 31.
Sept. 3, 1998 - Abmielec Saucedo filed a criminal assault against Tyson claiming Tyson punched him in the face as Saucedo talked with another driver following the accident of Aug. 31
Dec. 1, 1998 - Tyson pleads no contest to misdemeanor assault for kicking and punching two motorists involved in the Aug. 31 auto accident in Maryland,
Feb. 5, 1999 - Tyson sentenced to two concurrent two-year sentences for assaulting two motorists after a traffic accident in 1998. Judge Stephen Johnson suspended all but one year of jail time. Tyson was also fined $5,000 and sentenced to two years' probation after his release from jail. The decision could lead to more jail time for violating parole in Indiana.
More? Okie dokie...
In June, 1987, Tyson allegedly tried to kiss a woman in a parking lot, and struck the lot attendant who came to the woman's defense. Tyson was charged with misdemeanor assault and battery and assault with a deadly weapon, but paid $105,000 to settle the case out of court.
In February 1988, Tyson married Robin Givens. Four months later Givens and her family went public with allegations that Tyson had beaten her. In August 1988, Tyson broke a bone in his hand in an early-morning street brawl with another professional fighter, Mitch Green, in Harlem. A month later, Tyson was KO'd when he drove his BMW into a tree, described as a "suicide attempt" in The New York Daily News.
In April 1989, Tyson was accused of beating a parking lot attendant outside a Los Angeles nightclub. The charges were later dropped when witnesses refused to cooperate with prosecutors.
In 1991, Tyson was convicted of raping a beauty pageant contestant named Desiree Washington. The following year, he was sentenced to ten years in prison, with four years suspended by the judge. He was paroled in 1995, after serving three years.
