Get prepared. This film of the Passion isn't your typical Hollywood production, and it's producers say playing the race card is needed.
It's not Mel Gibson's The Passion, but folks involved in this big-screen's production are no less passionate in bringing this adaption of Christ's last 48 hours to your local cinema house in a film that openly plays the race card - with the Messiah cast as a black man.
This racial perspective to the conventional biblical story, the producers say, "is sure to challenge Conservative Christian beliefs."

This racial perspective to the conventional biblical story, the producers say, "is sure to challenge Conservative Christian beliefs." Not in the least. We conservative Christians know that Jesus was no blond-haired, blue-eyed Nordic type.
He lived and gave His life for everyone, regardless of race. He has been alive for eternity. What the color of his skin was for 33 years 2000 years ago is of no consequence.

Liberals are always late. They're always making it their business to challenge other people when THEY are the ones with the big time issues.

Why?
I have read the Bible and can not recalled the color of Christ's skin was ever mentioned. When one sees Jews / Israels their skin color rages from white to black and all in between, so whats the "deal"?

i thot that was strange too in the item. i take this to mean that the producers hope that there is scandal and gnashing of teeth to ... try to sell tickets.
which brings up another question: if u are wanting scandal, isn't that a sin?
To: Denver Ditdat
What they really mean is traditional values. Somehow a movie that heaps contempt on them won't find much of a box office - whether its a black Jesus or not. What is it with liberals assaulting people's faith? It looks like Hollywood is loath to give up its Christophobia.

Jesus came as everyone's savior. If it works for a person to picture him as white, black, Asian, or whatever, that's fine with me, though I think it sort of misses the point. I'm fine with black Santas, too.

Not this crap again! Jesus was as described in the Bible as nothing extraordinary to look at meaning he was like everyone else who lived in northern Galilee area, most likely olive skinned with a big nose and curly dark hair.
Surely the left has better things to waste their money on. Why don't they make Brokebutt Mountain Two or something.

Apparently folks to whom money means nothing, since they have to know a film like this will be a box-offce dud.

What is it with liberals assaulting people's faith? As many have often observed here, if the left really wants to demonstrate what an "edgy" and "daring" bunch of risk takers unafraid to challenge an entrenched belief system they are, there's a topic waiting for them:
Islam.
It's much safer and easier to rail against the latest imaginary incarnation of McCarthyism, so I suppose we can expect them to take on this weighty topic at about the same time Satan starts tending goal for the Red Wings.

Jesus looked like a typical Hebrew at the time. He was so nondescript that even the Romans couldn't pick him out of a croud which was why Judas had to kiss him in the Garden so they got the right guy.

The reason for the movie seems to be to say that racism was an issue in the crucifixion.
That is novel, there is no indication in the Bible that this was so.
It seems to be a rather crude attempt at exploitation of religion for the sake of making a political point.

Or maybe in a strange way, it's trying to bring up old myths ... that catholics hates jews, that all jews are to blame for Christ's death (which the Catholic Church doesn't say), and to some how try to twist that message to say the issue really is about race...
i dont know why, but i get the image of a replay of the old "planet of the apes" movies too. strange side thot
To: The Ghost of JG
Why the automatic equation of "conservative Christian" with racist? Sheesh...
