Capitol Police seek McKinney's arrest
The Washington Times ^ | April 4, 2006 | Charles Hurt

Posted on 04/04/2006 11:33:08 AM PDT by neverdem

The U.S. Capitol Police asked a federal prosecutor to approve an arrest warrant for Rep. Cynthia A. McKinney yesterday as two House Republicans prepared a resolution to commend the officers involved in last week's scuffle.

Mrs. McKinney, Georgia Democrat, and her office dismissed the prosecution request as politically charged and continued to portray the incident as racially motivated.

McKinney spokesman Coz Carson said any "prosecutor who's not a politician" would decline to prosecute.

"Any prosecutor with any sense can look at this thing and understand that it's not something that should be blown out of proportion any further," Mr. Carson said.

A representative for the U.S. Attorney's Office, which must approve any warrant, said officials were considering whether to file charges. No warrant had been issued as of yesterday afternoon. A felony charge of assaulting a police officer carries a maximum five-year sentence in the District.

Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, a Capitol Police spokeswoman, said only that the department "has referred its investigative findings to the United States attorney."

Mrs. McKinney continued yesterday to claim that she was a victim.

"The bottom line on this is that it doesn't matter if you're in the United States Capitol or the Georgia Capitol, the issue is racial profiling," she said on CNN yesterday.

The prosecution request stems from an incident last week in which Mrs. McKinney was stopped for bypassing a metal detector at the entrance to one of the congressional office buildings.

Members of Congress are not required to go through the metal detectors, but officers did not recognize her because she recently had changed her hairdo and was not wearing the member's pin that identifies her as a member of Congress. Once stopped, Mrs. McKinney swatted the officer with her cellular phone...

If she walks scott free then does that mean I can go ignore a cop and when he touches me I can hit 'em?

I could simply use the 'Rep. Cynthia A. McKinney' defense as precedent right?

That's what I was thinking, with so much pressure on her lower back that she urinates pieces of her kidney for a few days.

I wonder if he thinks those kinds of remarks are helping her case.

Of course, to me, it sounds like a threat.

Why should the cop apologize for doing his job?

"I think this whole incident has been way overblown. Everyone should apologize and get back to work"

Well your no fun at all. This lady is a disgrace to the Capital building, and I think we owe it to the rational public to help commence the disgracing

Sadly, I think they (those who have the power to effect justice) are running out the clock...

..and hoping it will blow over.

If it had been me....or you....no one would be dabating whether to arrest us....6 days later!--It would have been a done deal.

This is dumb. All it will do is make that soap box she is on a little higher.

McKinney and her race baiting cohorts don't care about criticism or the truth, they only want to generate a media event to push their agenda of racial destabilization. Elevating it only gives them an opportunity to "prove" to their supporters how bigoted the pubs are and raise some quick cash.

Why help her? Let it die the quick death it deserves.

Yea, after she makes such a show about it, now she wants it to go away.

She made the mess, she will have to deal with it.

This looks like an ad for some third rate lawyer: "Bad hairdo? You can sue! Hairdressers are just as subject to malpractice suits as surgeons..."

The problem is members of Congress should go through the metal detectors...Everyone should be equally treated.

You're absolutely right. What happened to the Contract with America attitude of: We should obey the same laws that we require the people of this country to obey? Commie Cyn's behavior proves your solution is necessary, but the elitists on the Hill won't want to burden themselves with standing in line.
