WASHINGTON (CNN) -- A deputy press secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security was arrested Tuesday at his Maryland home on charges he used his computer in an attempt to seduce a child and transmitted harmful materials to a minor, according to the Polk County, Florida, Sheriff's Office.
Brian J. Doyle, 55, is charged with seven counts of use of a computer to seduce a child and 16 counts of transmission of harmful material to a minor, according to a sheriff's office statement.
In interviews with police, Doyle confessed and has agreed to waive extradition to Florida, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said.
On March 12, according to a police statement, Doyle contacted a Polk County computer crimes detective posing online as a 14-year-old girl "and initiated a sexually explicit conversation with her ... Doyle knew that the 'girl' was 14 years old, and he told her who he was and that he worked for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security."
Judd said that Doyle, in the first conversation, told the detective his position with DHS and "started immediately into pretty vulgar language. He explained in graphic detail the sexual acts he wanted to perform with this 14-year-old."
As the two continued chatting online, police said, Doyle gave her his home and office phone numbers, and the number to his government-issue cell phone. He also had explicit telephone conversations with a detective posing as the girl, authorities said.
In addition, he used the Internet to send "hard-core pornographic movie clips" to her, and also used an America Online instant-messaging service to have explicit online conversations with her.

Yeah, pedophiles often aren't the smartest people in the world. Its an addiction and addicts often do the dumbest things in pursuit of their compulsion.
No doubt. I read about this on MSN about an hour ago (I use Hot Mail sometimes, that's my only excuse for even being near MSN.) and it floors me that someone, especially someone in a position like that could be so blatantly stupid.

I didnt say without trial, but the evidence against him is pretty significant. Do you really think they are going to arrest a high level official in DHS without overwhelming evidence? Some times these things are no brainers. And i resent being called a nazi because i dont like pedophiles.

I got charged (bogusly, I might add) with and assault and battery and a possesion of marijuana charge back in '97, went to trial, case DISMISSED for lack of evidence (it was bogus and if it wasn't I'd admit it right here) but I've had it bite me in the *ss when looking for work.
Potential employers are the absolute worst for assuming guilt when they find info like this.
And don't even think about vindictive 'significant others' ruining someone elses life out of pure spite with bogus charges of child or spousal abuse.

With any luck, they'll give him the means to hang himself before trial. If he has any sense of shame, that is. I'd like to see admitted pedophiles dead, because of the very high recidivism rate. OTOH, the degree to which he compromised his identity is -so- astounding that I have a hard time believing that he was well-versed in criminal ways. The stupid criminals are usually the newbies -- the ones who pay for a store purchase with a personal check or credit card, and then try to hold up the cashier, for example.
Frankly, I'm also very concerned about the degree to which this idiot compromised national security, if he had any sort of DHS-related clearances. Traitors are often compromised by blackmail, and this guy was setting himself up to be blackmailed big-time. I hope the authorities follow up on the possibility that this guy might have been talking to enemy spies posing as 14-year old girls.

FOX just said the detective posed as young girl recovering from leukemia and that after the perv offered his condolences - he immediately began with the nasties.
I'm not opposed to castrating the offenders. But don't for a moment think that resolves the issue. A pedofile will still prey on children with or without their glands.
There was an ICE agent arrested in Florida for being a sex offender too.
