“It appears our grassroots effort was just outmatched by the opposition. It is difficult to win any election when your opponent has the resources to outspend you 2 to 1.” Vancos said.

Does this guy think that the people of Wisconson are dopes? That a bunch of smokers outspent the organized forces of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation? What a liar!

The results of the advisory referendum will now go to the city's Protection of Persons and Property committee at its next meeting.

So this was a nonbinding referendum anyway. Watch the CPPP (city Protection of Persons and Property. Strangly reminiscent of the old Soviet Union, eh?) do "the right thing" and pass the ban anyway. For the chirrun, for the workers, don'cha know.

Swearingen said the Be Fair group supports a state-wide effort to “level the playing field, so we don't have any islands.”

Why is this guy using the language of the antis? Once you allow them to define the debate, you've lost. Is he a modern relative of Al Swearingen of "Deadwood" fame?

I don't understand why they want to take a second run at it when the voters have spoken.

They can't stand not getting their own way with this.  So many have easily fallen victims to the Partnership for a Smoke Free Everything of late, that when one town recognizes the ban for what it is and comes to their senses, the anti's just can't believe it!

So, not everyone in the United States are sheeple.  I applaud the people of Rhinelander!!!

I'm afraid they will back door them like they did here in Maine.  We the people HAD no vote on this smoking ban.  They just did it.

That's what they will probably force on the good people in Rhinelander.  They will back door them into a forced ban.  Forking evil idiots!

As one of the "Sanctimonious SOBs" and "Power hungry grabbers of human rights" serving on the Rhinelander City Council who happens to be on YOUR side in this fight, I am happy to be here to update you folks on the situation:

At the PPP meeting (a committee that I happen to be on) that we called to review the results of the referendum we unanimously decided to put this to rest.

Not that it can't come back later, new people get elected, I'm sure the group that was pushing for the smoking ban will reorganize, but for now...

this issue is dead.

So, please, don't call an entire elected body names - call the specific elected officials who are on the wrong side of the issue names. I serve on this City Council, and agree with you folks! Don't smear an entire body with derogatory names - it is actually the individual members we disagree with - don't lump us good ones in :)

The Protection of Persons and Property committee will meet Monday, April 24.

The Protection of Persons and Property Committee?

Is Hillary running this thing?

Do they meet in Pyongyang?

See www.rhinelandercityhall.org/council.cfm for committee makeup, meeting notices and locations, and chairmanship :)

I'm sure the SAFE (Smoke-free Air For Everyone) group will be back eventually.. I still get mail from them every couple of weeks...
