Bruce Springsteen's latest ode to the "common man"
Amazon.com ^ | 4/7/2006 | Bruce Springsteen

'We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions' features Bruce's personal interpretations of thirteen traditional songs, all of them associated with the legendary guiding light of American folk music, Pete Seeger, for whom the album is named. Speaking of the origins of the new music, Springsteen said, "So much of my writing, particularly when I write acoustically, comes straight out of the folk tradition. Making this album was creatively liberating because I have a love of all those different roots sounds... they can conjure up a world with just a few notes and a few words." Springsteen recorded the album with a large ensemble.

Whoops, that's "self-perpetuating" rather than "self-perputating "

That darn spell checker!

The best definition of a liberal: Someone with all the right ideas and the resources to avoid their consequences.

Much of rock music is now just contrived posing and fake "Kodak Moments" as learned and parroted by the MTV video generation. Pre video, there were real concerts with real musical moments rather than just show bizzy stage shows.

Agreed.

A lot of very famous artists before MTV came along wouldn't get signed these days because they wouldn't have the 'right' stage presence or looks.

MTV and all it's derivatives suck.

Confession: I did like them between about '85 and '89 when they actually played music videos.

10 Springsteens couldn't equal one Bob Segar, in my humble opinion.

Do not get me started about treasonous, anti-American, degenerate old fart Pete Seeger.

And do not ever get me started about "folk music". Yech, barf, puke!!!

Use A Folk Guitar, Go To Jail!

Hippy Dippy "Folk Singers" for Communism!

Agree with you completely on your assessment of Springsteen's music. When he's singing about cars, youth, road trips, interpersonal relationships, etc. he's as good as any act out there. When he injects politics there are very few that are worse.

As for Seeger, yeah, he was a communist, but one reason communism was able to take root in the US is that at first it misrepresented itself as a movement that actually had to do something with communities. I think Seeger and others of his era (i.e. Steinbeck) were generally patriotic Americans who got suckered into a belief system that was ultimately exposed as the the tentacles of a monster.

One of my favorite and most used quotes comes from Pete Seeger:

“Education is when you read the fine print. Experience is what you get if you don't.”

Yes, there was actually a brief period when it was fun and good.

Now it's just another wing of the MSM trying to tell us what's good for us and how to think and live.

I don't know, Bruce was always up for liberal causes. Remember the No Nukes concert at MSG? Difference was, back then he could be forgiven because he was the best rock musician in the world.

Yeah, looking back he was always a liberal wanker, but at least he could let it go and for the most part have a good time at a show. Now he plays all his oldies like they're durges. I hear he has a hissy fit when people clap, sing and dance at his shows. Totally wrapped up in his own worls.

"Well, there's $15 or $20 I can save easily. Springsteen is overrated."

Even though I'm laughing at your comment, I'm in total agreement with it. He's WAY overrated.

Yes, Bob Seger is one in my Top 3. Very Underrated.

Only Springsteen song (version) I like was "Born to be Wild." Not much else. And when he decided to go P.C. (Philadelphia) I began changing stations whenever I heard his voice.

By the way: Remember Seger's song "Tomorrow". It's on his "Best of... #2" album. he asks. "What happens if neutrinos have mass?". They just announced earlier this week: Neutrinos have mass.

Guys were only into folk music to get chicks.

Just like the classic line from Animal House.

"Just mention modern art, civil rights or folk music, and you’re in like flint."

ROFL, you're right.

We guys are so noble and selfless aren't we? We're only interested in all the good altrustic things. Food, booze, sex, cars and sports.

Perfect summation of the Carter years.

Except that it was written to condemn Reagan's economy, if I'm not mistaken.
