Thank you for this update. I have been keeping an eye on the weather since yesterday. We lost 23 in western TN recently, and it looks like we are in for more bad weather.

The storms the other night was insane. It hailed here in mid Tennessee for 20 straight minutes horizontally, LoL! I am headed out to secure objects that could be flying objects (just in case)

I was wondering why the recent tornados, storms, etc. have not been headlined. Possibly b/c few or no poor, black, democrats have suffered losses? I guess it's not W's fault if only middle class whites are affected.

Perhaps if you turned the TV ON you might have noticed that the tornado swarm continues to be shown on TV. Just about every single day there have been pictures of the devastation.

I'll be keeping y'all in my prayers today.

We had some bad weather last week which included funnel clouds rotating up in the clouds. Thankfully none of them touched down here in SW Ok.

The storms were moving at a pretty fast clip of 65 mph. We did have high winds and pretty large hail. It was rather strange in that fiance was 5 blocks away and didn't get any hail yet it hailed so much here the front yard was white. The hail stones were larger than a golf ball but smaller than a lemon. Some were rounded and smooth while others were irregular in size with crystal like protuberances sticking out all around the stone.

We've been under high wind warnings and fire weather warnings (still are again today). We had a housefire on Wednesday and one yesterday. Both homes were completely destroyed but at least the fire department was able to keep the fires from spreading to other homes. While 2 fires in 2 days may not sound like much for those living in a big city, my town has a total population of 4,000.

Yesterday we had sustained winds of 65 mph for most of the afternoon. Today we're supposed to have sustained winds of 30-40 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

As I mentioned, I'll be keeping your area in my prayers.

Yikes! Hopefully, you'll be ahead of the storms by that time.

OTOH, if you were driving from Nashville to Memphis, you could expect a rough time.

In '96, I drove from Jackson Tn to Nashville thru one of the worst friggin' storms I had ever seen. I had the wiper blades going full blast and it was still hard to see. I turned on my hazards and dropped down to 30mph.

I should have pulled over but was afraid that someone would rearend me - even on the shoulder! The storm let up after I crossed the Tennessee River bridge.

That was some definite white knuckle driving!

You mean I have to turn it ON to see anything? D'oh.

I do see it on the weather channel, but as far as my local paper, and other newspapers I read, the coverage has been minimal. Of course, I am comparing this to other disasters that get more limelight.

Right back at ya with the prayers for you and your family. I saw the brush fires on TV, and the winds looked absolutely ferocious.

Some of the counties here in Middle Tennessee are talking about letting school out early so everyone can get home. Time to hunker down and ride it out. Right now is calm and overcast. Stay safe y'all.

Wow, they must be expecting some pretty damned bad weather if they're talking about letting school out early.

Are you in the Nashville area?

Well it's been on just about constantly here on the East coast. We get weather reports on just about every station and there are always pictures of the storm damage and the locations that were hit.

Hope you didn't mind my snarky comment! Jan

Some of the scariest watch wording I've ever seen:

DISCUSSION...VERY POTENT TORNADIC SUPERCELL ENVIRONMENT IN PLACE
ACROSS TN VALLEY AHEAD OF DEEP SURFACE LOW OVER NERN KS. STRONG
DEEP LAYER SHEAR...VERY STEEP MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES...AND MDT TO
STRONG INSTABILITY WILL LEAD TO RAPID DEVELOPMENT OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OVER LOWER OH AND TN VALLEYS BY EARLY AFTERNOON. TORNADIC SUPERCELLS ARE EXPECTED WITH POTENTIAL FOR VIOLENT/LONGTRACK TORNADOES.

Yesterday in the plains was actually somewhat of a bust...not quite as bad as forecast; probably not the case today.

Considering today and tonight could have very widespread severe weather, would you consider setting this up as on Official Thread?

I suspect there's a lot of Freepers (as the day goes on) who may want to post on this issue.

The storm east of Memphis has a distinct hook echo, and the county is under a Tornado warning. If anyone lives near Bolivar, take cover now.

Gawd, the storm west of Nashville has a hook echo that you can see at low resolutions. Tornado warning in the affected counties.

Thanks for the ping - I was out and about much of the day and joined the other thread late evening. It's still going on in AL and MS, then eastward. Nighttime and thunderstorm tornadoes are the worst.

Thanks for the update on your weather. I had seen the many fires in both panhandles and some of the bad stuff near you, weatherwise and firewise - also in my old Osage stompin' grounds yesterday. Prayers and thoughts always with y'all. {{Hugss}}
