"Landmark legislation offering eventual citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants suffered a potentially fatal blow Friday in the Senate, the latest in a series of election-year setbacks for President Bush and the Republicans who control Congress."

It's a victory for "Republicans who control congress."

Well, yeah, it should go without saying if I think the GOP needs someone other than one of the 55 Senators to run for POTUS, we don't need a REPRESENTATIVE running! Come on - this is not The West Wing ; )

I fail to see how a vote to allow debate to continue = a total and complete "collapse" ; )

It is a good thing this bill ran aground. The ThugoRats would not even let any amendments happen to the bill to even make it into something OTHER THAN AN AMNESTY BILL -- which it was/is. The whole thing is a sham upon the American public and the Congress thinks that the American public is too stupid to realize it. The bill contained NO PROVISIONS TO CLOSE OUR BORDERS FOR SECURITY AND ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION threats -- nothing of any consequence other than typical impotent doubletalk.

I have sent at least ten smoking emails to the White House and my so-called representatives in Washington letting them know that the public knows EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE TRYING TO DO TO THIS COUNTRY for the sake of politics. The liberals are the most egregious -- but the Repubs are coming up a close second. They all STINK! And when this bill comes up again, they will try the same crap to shove this up the posteriors of the American public to put a political happy face on it...and shove it aside.

Remember the names: McCain, Kennedy, Specter, Frist, et al. This handful of traitors has control over the cultural, ethical, legal, immigration, and freedom policies of this country and its people. The BORDER MUST BE CLOSED at any cost, without concern for BS politics, and it must be done soon. For security and to STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.

These scumbags in Washington know the eye is on them. NO AMNESTY and CLOSE THE BORDERS. You should echo these words to your representatives until they will not pick up the phone any more ---- McCain has already stopped like the rest of the liberals in this...again, they really STINK!!!

The internet was an instrumental tool in getting the word out to rally the people to speak out on the Senate's sham compromise. The gov can't have the voice of the people influencing what they want to do so I'm concerned that they will devise a way of limiting our communication via that tool very soon. Not paranoid, just a heads up.

I fail to see how a vote to allow debate to continue = running the bill aground (seriously though, I'm fine keeping the status quo if the Senate and House cannot agree on a bill before Novemeber ; )

If anything passes out of the Senate before the election, it will be SOME form of amnesty - there were enough votes for it - just not enough votes to invoke cloture.

QUISLING: a synonym for traitor, someone who collaborates with the invaders of his country.

Sen. Edward M. Kennedy

Has this guy ever backed anything good for this nation? Well, perhaps so, he's probably traveled outside the nation often enough. Ted, why not pick one of those marxist socialist societies that are twice as good as ours is (in your opinion) and leave this nation in peace? And please take the other butt-h-les with you.

Frist accused Harry Reid of Nevada, the Democratic leader, of "putting a stranglehold" on the Senate by refusing to permit votes on more than three Republican amendments.

Just when the infighting in the Republican Party looked really bad, Dirty Harry Reid steps in and tries to break up the fight by spitting on all Republicans.

Ah the Democrats! "You know what, you Dems are self-destructive! There's a Funny Farm and it has your names written all over it!"

Caption: Reid said Wednesday, "I felt the urge to obstruct. It was too strong to contain. Republicans unite against me because I am important and enjoy power trips. And you Republicans thought Tom Daschle was bad."

If this was a "setback for Republicans," why was Kennedy "lamenting" it?

" I haven't heard enough from Sessions to know where he stands."

I watched him yesterday on CSPAN. Said he thought the bill was rushed and was deeply flawed. Then in the next breath said he was in favor of guest workers, a path towards citizenship, etc. Sounded to me like the nuts and bolts of the deeply flawed bill he was against.
