First of all, just because there was a peer-to-peer program running on his computer doesn't mean he installed or was aware of it. That's what some hackers do with their programming, setup porn satellite distribution drones. That way the illegal pictures are being distributed by computers that are not directly connected to the source making it very difficult to find the true perpetrator. All the while the owner of the computer has no idea what's going on.

Good point -- I hadn't thought of that.

On the other hand, this guy worked for DoD doing computer systems work -- wouldn't you think he'd be one of those people who'd be savvy enough to notice something was going on? I guess it's possible he just didn't know -- but if so that doesn't say much for his job competence.

With a high bandwidth Internet connection and with Microsoft Windows, you can all kinds of things going on and not be aware of it. In all likelihood the DoD official had a very high bandwidth connection and wouldn't have notice if something else was sharing it. So other than his computer operating a little slower there wouldn't have been many red flags that something was wrong.

Now this is all just speculation. But it would make sense to drop the case against him if this is what happened. And it has definitely happened to other people.

Interesting background -- thanks. If this guy is innocent, I'm glad the charges have been dropped. Maybe the DoD needs to get some better firewall software.

Dr. Lynch is a republican, but isn't registered. I personally know him, and he is a good moral man. There have been several people who have said that he should be shot at a different site, and i think that this is needless biolence against a innocent man. i think this is wrong.
