More Damning Documents On Saddam ~Origins Of War:~~ Why won't Washington get the word out?
Investors Business Daily ^ | 4/7/2006 | staff

The latest in a stream of eye-opening Iraqi documents shows Saddam Hussein's regime was planning suicide attacks on U.S. interests six months before 9-11. Why won't Washington get the word out?

Last month the Pentagon began releasing records captured during Operation Iraqi Freedom. Among the documents is a letter dated March 11, 2001, written by Abdel Magid Hammod Ali, one of Saddam's air force generals.

According to an unofficial translation, Page 6 of the letter asks for "the names of those who desire to volunteer for suicide mission to liberate Palestine and to strike American interests."

Assuming the document's accuracy, this shows that Saddam's regime was not only providing aid and support for terrorist organizations of other countries. It was also planning its own bombings directed at U.S. facilities and personnel.

As counterterrorism consultant Dan Darling wrote last week on the Weekly Standard's Web site, that would mean Russian intelligence services under Vladimir Putin were better informed about Iraq's terrorist abilities than the U.S. spy community.

Though little noticed by the press, during a July 2004 visit to Kazakhstan the Russian president said that between 9-11 and the U.S. invasion of Iraq, "Russian special services and Russian intelligence several times received . . . information that official organs of Saddam's regime were preparing terrorist acts on the territory of the U.S. and beyond its borders, at U.S. military and civilian locations."

This new document, said Darling, "would seem to refute a long-standing contention among members of the U.S. intelligence community that Iraq ceased its involvement in international terrorism after its failed 1993 plot to assassinate former President George H.W. Bush." Darling cites former National Security Council official Richard Clarke's book "Against all Enemies," which contends that the NSC, the CIA and the FBI all agreed Iraq posed no terrorist threat to the U.S.

"One argument that I received after posting the translation supplied by Laurie Mylroie was that because the translation came from Free Republic, it made it unreliable.

Well well well...isnt Laurie Mylroie the same person who is a god to some on this site."

The translation was supplied by Laurie Mylroie, not the argument.

"This March, 2001 Iraqi memo and Mohammed Atta's reputed trip to Prague in April, 2001, keep bouncing around in my head. If it can be demonstrated that Saddam's regime had advanced knowledge of 9/11, and was in favor of it, game over."

You are right, and also link it to the translation of the report of the Iraqi diplomat in Afghanistan who reported to his superiors, shortly after 9/11, that the USA had knowledge of Iraqi and al Qaida involvement in 9/11, and might use force against both.

I don't have a link for the translation, but it was widely reported, including on Free Republic.

>>>Hey Laurie whats the matter did he scoop you?

I'm way behind in threads; but, JV, isn't Mylroie the person that copied one of your translations as her/his own?

Article in Investor's Business Daily. This story has legs.

It's going to work like Chinese Water Torture--eventually, there will be enough drips to kill the left's increasingly groundless argument against the Iraq War

"Whoever supplied the anthrax must pay a real price."
Things can be arrange surly between such upright and equitable dealers. Damn don't I make you sick, I am making myself sick on that one. ha ha. Can't be totally serious tis, the weekend.
If it would avoid us having to literally take Iran apart and lose aviators, pilots, sailors, soldiers, and Marines, I would think perhaps the trade was fair enough. I think you could say some rotten bastard like Murtha is just as bad as the commies that may have arranged for US citizens to get poisoned.
Where does one draw the line in diplomacy at this high level.
I don't pretend to have a clue. But I would think if perhaps we could get the Iranians by UN approved sanctions to give up their quest for making uranium or plutonium weapons, perhaps much can be overlooked. As we accutely understand the oil issue and the closing of the gulf would be a real catastrophy, for quite a few countries. Sure the US would survive, we got large petroleum reserves etc.. Things would be cleared up proto, sunken freighters or oil tankers would be blown and removed from the sea lane etc..
I guess one can rant on with all kinds of scenarios, but if the US really preferes not to hammer Iran, then obviously some horse trading has to be done in high places.

The problem in that diplomatic deck of cards is the wild Iranian President. He may actually believe that mumbo jumbo about setting up conditions that bring about the return of the 12th Imam. If that is the case, the Russians have a very weak hand. Might as well make a deal with the Sunni Arabs and teach the Russians a lesson.

Jveritas last translation about 6 months BEFORE 9/11 Saddam was seeking volunteers to do SUICIDE ATTACKS AGAINST US INTERESTS has been verified by two other translators, one from Syria and one from the UK via Captain's Quarters request. Thank you Captain!

This is huge! First off great job jveritas!! You are truly the man. Now it is our turn not to let this translation go unnoticed by our friends, family, the internet, all members of congress and the media.

We have 6 months to pound this home. God speed.

That is what appears to be happening. We certainly are attempting to give the Sunni a chance to get into the ball game. The shia alone would wreck the country. Many a Sunni businessmen and politician if playing by the rules could be a benefit in the equation.
And surely the Russians are just aware as you and I of what the mad hatter down in Tehran thinks. They study these people in detail.
They have played the cards, figuring they will come out on top, as far as continued sales of reactors, associated equipment, tech goods in general, amoung other things. Plus the hoped for oil/gas pipeline deals.
If we where to go in and put Iran back into the stoneage, then the Russians will like in Iraq, which surely they are still immensly smarting from loss heaven only know how much money.
I sense they are going to come around soon. China a few days back made gestures that Iran cannot continue playing the nuclear game.
At any rate nice exchanging views you. I really do have to get some shut eye. Eye balls are seeing double. So you do have a great up coming day.

Thanks jrooney for posting this update!

BIG REPING TO THIS THREAD!!

Captain's Quarters Blog has in its 2 independent translations compare to jveritas's, and they concur with his!

You will note that all three translations of this document -- performed by three different people working independently of each other -- all translate this section almost identically. All three explicitly show that the Iraqi military had ordered a call for volunteers to carry out suicide attacks on American interests, six months before 9/11 and two years almost to the day prior to our invasion.

See the blog at the link for the other 2 translations.

Woohoo!

This should shut up the naysayers, but I'm sure most all of us were already satisfied that our translator can beat up their translators.

This is fantastic, it should take the doubt out of anyones mind that jveritas' translations are for real. I know we at FR didn't doubt him but some on other sites did.

jveritas is the MAN!
