UNHINGED TEACHER OF THE WEEK
· April 08, 2006 09:40 AM
The latest government education outrage from Alabama:
Christy Jackson does not want a teacher showing her 13-year-old son a video calling the president of the United States an ahole during class. Nor does she believe her son should be shown Internet videos which are barred to students by school system controls that use obscenities.
But that is what West Limestone High School eighth grade science teacher Steve White, a Democratic candidate for the District 4 seat on the House of Representatives, is accused of doing.
My son and a group of his friends were talking about this video they had seen in school, Jackson said. One of the other students mother saw the video and she forwarded it to me. I saw it and I became livid.
You can watch the video at Filmstripinternational.com

The Athens, Ala. Courier News further reports:
Jackson said she contacted West Limestone Principal Stan Davis, who told her White had been reprimanded.
School board member Darin Russell, whose district the school is in, said board members were made aware of the situation about a month ago.
The matter did not come before board members for discussion or a vote, but was handled by the central office by Superintendent Dr. Barry Carroll as a personnel matter.
Carroll, who is out of town, did not respond to a call to his cellular phone. A message was left at the central office for Assistant Superintendent Richard Leath, but an assistant said only Carroll could comment on the matter.
Two calls to Davis were not returned. A message left on Whites machine also received no response.

A note to all parents, never, but never allow a complaint about a teacher go to the school board as a "personnel matter" that's a euphemism for shuffle the teacher to another school.
If there is another appropriate venue, take it - police, attorney - it doesn't matter.
Personnel matters are generally under wraps by deals made between the teacher unions and the school districts, so they can never comment on them publicly. It's the biggest school scam around because it protects predators, druggies and criminals in school systems.

Good point - makes you wonder if McKinney was a teacher before she got into congress...

I'm speechless. Just when I think the left can not get any more insane, this sort of agregious behavior takes place. Reprimand? OMG... this guy not only need to be not elected and FIRED, but he should be prohibited from every having a teaching degree again that allows him near the minds of children. This is so unbelievable I'm almost not believing it.

That's exactly how many teachers these days seem to feel, including their unions.
And these are the folks charged with educating our youth.

I taught the social studies curriculum from 7th grade through college, and I would not have shown such crude propaganda. It is like the rant of the geography teacher in that it overwhelms with many diverse claims.
To: the anti-liberal
the following appears on the schools web-page contact listing for the teacher in question.

"For 25 bucks his republican opponent should take out an ad there saying something like "whatever you do don't vote for this a$$hole""
Or a more informative ad would show exactly what his views are, calling into question the appropriateness of someone with such views representing the state of Alabama to the country and the world.
Good idea though, anyone in this district who's interested in helping this loser lose might consider proposing this to whomever this loser's opponent happens to be.

Oh, boy! ( sigh). That's all we need...ANOTHER teacher in politics.
My most vivid picture of teachers is the Democratic 2000 convention. Teachers were the largest single profession represented at that convention.
Do you remember the teachers, wearing brightly colored pro-abortion buttons and ribbons on their hats and lapels? Do you remember them cheering wildly for Bill Clinton the philanderer and Liar in Chief as he made his way through the bowels of the Coliseum?
Why on earth would teachers wear buttons celebrating abortion, even the shoving of scissors into the brains of full term infants as they are being born, scrambling the brains, and sucking the gelatinous mass into a GUMCO surgical suction jar? These are the people teaching our nation's children.
I wonder. Do they serve cookies and milk with that?

He's only emulating his idol - Jay Bennish.
Seems to be a national trend - someone needs to look into what universities are teaching in 'education' class, what are they teaching teachers to teach?

be teaching SCIENCE?
Because...despite contrary impressions, political correctness has
infiltrated a fair chunck of the science world.
Granted, this is probably a case of a teacher politicized at some
university "school of education" or politicized before getting to the
university.
But, a lot more political correctness is sneaking into the realm of
scientific academia.
To some degree it has to do with $$$. A fair number of science academics
think they (and other entitlement programs) should get 200% of all
the tax revenues...and 0% for the national defense.

In NJ, the educational industry is structured so that a teacher is prohibited from bringing any issue directly to the Bored of Education. Everything must be funneled through the Superintendent of Schools.
However, in NJ, there is (at least in most of the Districts that I know), a portion of the public Bored of Education month meeting (by law, all business must be conducted in public)that includes an opportunity for any member of the public to speak.
But, the teachers are also prohibited from bringing the issue directly to the Bored of Education.
The public can bring any issue before the Bored of Edcuation. The Bored probably will not immediately discuss it, but the issue will then have been exposed to the public, including the press.

We have a similar system here - however - the issue is immediately classified as a "personnel issue" and cannot be discussed in public forums - school board meetings. It becomes a matter between the union, the teacher and the school board.
I believe the pedophilia cases we're hearing about have been going on for years, but heretofore have been hidden behind the "personnel issue" shield. It is only when law enforcement is involved that we even hear anything about it.
Any institutionalized professional shield is meant to keep the rattling skeletons out of the public eye and "personnel issue" is certainly one of those shields.
Shields are not meant to protect the children, innocent coworkers or potential victims, they are there to protect the victimizer and the employer.

"I know of one instance where my son was told he couldnt leave the room without saying, John Kerry rocks, she said. I think my son is entitled to his opinion, just like (his teacher) is. I dont think any issue should be forced on my son." Nice to know this teacher(?) got "reprimanded". That'll show him.

OK, as a former teacher, this is crazy! I was always really careful about what I showed my students. It meant that there were some really good videos (things from discover channel for instance) that I DID NOT SHOW because there were somethings I thought might be offensive, and it wasn't MY job to show the kids stuff like that.
Maybe they need to give a test of maturity and logic to people before they get to teach....
