LOU DOBBS, CNN ANCHOR: Tonight here in Washington, supporters of amnesty for million of illegal aliens have suffered a major defeat in the U.S. Senate.

Also, hundreds of thousands of people preparing to demonstrate and protest in 70 cities across the country in support of amnesty, illegal aliens and against border security. Will these demonstrators continue to display the flag of Mexico or will they fly the flag of the United States?

Transcript for Dobbs Friday

More on WHY the Senate lost itself!

The second nasty surprise? Just before the committee approved the bill on the evening of March 27, Sen. Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) offered the "DREAM Act" as an amendment. It passed on a voice vote.

NOTE: Could be WHY voicemail was full! The DREAM Act is a nightmare

The bill also gives an amnesty to the nine states (including New York) that have been flouting the '96 law, two of which (California and Kansas) are now facing lawsuits (I'm a counsel to the plaintiffs in both cases).

The third nasty surprise lies in what the bill fails to do. The measure envisions a massive amnesty for illegal aliens now in the country - but doesn't give the Citizenship and Immigration Service (CIS) the personnel or infrastructure to implement the amnesty.

Heads Up TM'ers! :

In 1986, the terrorist Mahmud "The Red" Abouhalima fraudulently got amnesty as a seasonal agricultural worker (in fact, he was a New York cabbie). That status allowed him to travel to Afghanistan for terrorist training - which he later used as one of the 1993 World Trade Center bombers.

Terrorists know how to game the system. Janice Kephart, former counsel to the 9/11 Commission, released a study last year on how easily terrorists obtain immigration benefits. Of 94 alien terrorists in the United States, she found that 59 were successful immigration frauds. That includes six of the 9/11 hijackers.

HIDDEN BOMBS

SENATOR SESSIONS ON SECURING AMERICA'S BORDERS ACT Mr. President, I thank Senator Leahy, ranking member on the Judiciary Committee.

I have received just this afternoon in my office some disturbing news in the form of correspondence from the Congressional Budget Office. It suggests a number of areas where the amendment we are talking about here today, No. 3424, the immigration so-called compromise, violates our budget and the rules of the Senate.

Let me read from the correspondence we have received. This is something, as you know, Mr. President, as a member of the Judiciary Committee, that we never discussed at all. It is not a matter we spent any time at all discussing as we moved forward with legislation which ultimately cleared that committee and came to the floor — legislation which I thought was not good legislation and which I opposed, and so did the Senator from Texas, who just relinquished the Chair. We didn't discuss the financial impact of the legislation before us.

Stand Up For America !

,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Thank you Senator Sessions! We have a winner! They were in such a hurry to cram it down our throats..they forgot who was paying for it and how much it would cost..Malfeasance! Dereliction of Duty! Violation of their own Rules! Censure! Vote the bums out!

What American people should tell Congress:
~Phyllis Schlafly

* Be honest when talking about immigration; seriously address voters concerns.

* Reject amnesty no matter how it is disguised.

* Reject all temporary foreign-worker or guest-worker bills.

* Put troops on our borders to stop the invasion of illegal aliens and save lives.

* Cut off federal highway funds to any state that gives drivers licenses to illegal aliens. (This is just as important and legal as laws that cut off funds from states that don't enforce speed-limit or seat-belt laws.)

* Prosecute employers who import illegals and/or hire workers in the underground economy.

* Terminate the H-1B program; we have no labor shortage of engineers.

* Pass strict rules to stop the rampant abuse of L-1 visas.

* Forbid government agencies to outsource jobs offshore.

* Forbid "totalization" of Social Security with foreign countries.

* Reduce the number of legal immigrants we admit every year from 1 million to one-half million.

* Eliminate fraud in legal immigration (such as fake marriages) and in refugee admissions.

* Cut off federal funds to cities that have "sanctuary" laws and refuse to arrest illegals .

* Do a better job of screening immigrants for diseases in order to stop the importation of West Nile virus, malaria, and other Third World diseases, as well as diseases that the United States long since eliminated in our country such as tuberculosis, polio and measles.

They [the reform's costs] also do NOT include revenue losses and outlays for the Earned Income Tax Credit, which we will be getting from the Joint Tax Committee and which results largely from the conditional non-immigrant provisions. Those revenue losses and Earned Income Tax Credit outlays may be significant.

Does that mean what I think it does? If so then I say again, we CANNOT afford to have the ILLEGAL aliens "pay" their back / future taxes!

. . .you will see that they [the "cheap" labor] fall in the classic earned income tax credit range . . . The average recipient gets $2,400 a year by way of a tax credit.

Yes, I think it means what I've always thought would happen.

It's called government subsidized "cheap" labor for American businessmen who hate government interference.. er, well, most interference.

Don't forget to budget for the millions and millions of relatives of the "regularized" workers -- regularized workers hate being alone.

Remember to put SSA on alert.. those regularized workers will need to have their years of W-2 data all transferred from the Earnings Suspense File to the SSA Earnings Master File when they get their shiny new SS numbers.

The average recipient gets $2,400 a year by way of a tax credit. Persons who are working here illegally today are not currently getting the earned income tax credit, but if we regularize them and make them permanent residents, they will. That will cost us a lot of money

This president and Ted kennedy and McCain are trying to bankrupt this Country for sure. And I thought impeachment was out of line...whew was I wrong!!!!

I just posted this on another illegals thread, so hope you don't mind if I copy it here too. (And I apologize in advance for the lenghth)

I've been thinking about doing a thread asking for FReepers advice on submitting a congressional inquiry into the allegations that Senator Hagel committed a felony when he told the INS not to deport illegals in the meat-packing industry in Nebraska.

For anyone not familiar with the charges, I copied the following from RUSH's website:

Here's Mark Krikorian giving some examples of how our lawmakers often work behind-the-scenes to thwart our immigration laws:

In ninety eight, the border patrol noticed that the work force picking onions in the vidalia onion fields of Georgia appeared increasingly to be illegals, so they did some raids, arrested a few dozen illegal aliens, and all the rest of them ran off. So the farmers were there stuck with onions in the ground and no one to pull them out. It was all their own fault, they knew what they were doing, but nonetheless, they were outraged. They called their Congressmen, and by the end of the week, three of Georgia's Congressmen and both Senators, Republicans and Democrats, wrote a joint letter to the Attorney General demanding that the Immigration Service stop enforcing the law. Because they said the INS does not understand the needs of American farmers. Which in ordinary English means, "let them pick the onions, then arrest them. Preferably before we have to pay them". Well, the INS got slapped down and stopped.

So what they tried as an alternative to raids, was something called Operation Vanguard in Nebraska. It was sort of the first effort at something like this to see if it worked. They didn't do raids anywhere, all they did was subpoena personnel records. And they didn't just pick one or two employers, they did all the meatpacking plants in all of Nebraska, so that no one of them would be inconvenienced while the others benefitted. They took the personnel records back to the office, checked the Social Security numbers, and came back with a list of people who seemed to be illegal, who did not have authorization to work. They said "we know some of these people are legit and the records are wrong. We want to fix those people's records and the ones that are illegal, have to leave of course". They came back with four thousand names. One thousand people showed up and got their records fixed and three thousand were never heard from again. They were illegal aliens. It worked really well and it was intended to be repeated every two to three months so as to wean the whole industry off of the use of illegal aliens.

After one effort like this, the political and business elite in Nebraska went insane. The ranchers and the meat packers teamed up with the governor. The governor's predecessor, now Senator Nelson, was hired as a lobbyist to put an end to this initiative. Senator Chuck Hagel made it essentially his mission in life to see that this was never repeated and it wasn't. And the Senior INS official who thought it up in the first place was invited to retire early -- and he did. If you're a bureaucrat and you have kids in college, you're going to take the hint: Congress doesn't want you to enforce the law. So the Immigration Service essentially gave up enforcing the immigration laws inside the country. They focused on the important, but narrow, issues of criminal aliens and smugglers. I'm all for that, criminal aliens and alien smugglers are the scum of the earth, but there's a lot more to the issue than just that. But, going after those parts of the issue doesn't get you in trouble politically. So that's what they did, they gave up because Congress told them to stop doing their jobs. They really haven't changed that much (since) 9/11.

I've been told that requests for congressional inquiries are given a high priority (but that was regarding a military office, so I could be wrong). Thought it would be worth the effort though. Hagel committed a felony, and though there may be a statute of limitations, it should be made public knowledge. He is a high profile person in all this, and if he received nothing more than a censure, it would serve as a warning to other power-hungry politicians.

The above examples are the reason why our current immigration laws aren't working. The people who make our laws violate the ones that threaten their power.

My questions are: Is this feasible? Who do I send it to? (Frist is my senator) Do I send it to multiple senators, like Tancredo?

I was looking for a renewed sense of urgency regarding the immigration debate on FR...and all I could find is this tabloid flavored thread...

Where is the outrage?

Where are the true constitutional conservatives who are livid and boiling over with rage with what Bush and the RINO legislative cabal are doing?

We are having the wet wool pulled over our eyes and getting screwed from the rear by the salacious bullcrap being called 'immigration reform'...

Anyone else as still pissed off as me?

In Washington 'PORK' used to refer to wasteful spending and pet earmarks...I propose that from now on that four letter word PORK should refer to what GW and the RINO elitist cabal congress is serving up from behind [your behind]...in regards to immigration reform... Bend over...and smile...your getting PORK...
