Skip to comments.Saddam Targeted American Assets For Terrorism: Case Closed Jveritas translation confirmed ....
Posted on 04/08/2006 11:12:43 PM PDT by Ernest_at_the_Beach
A few days ago, I posted a translation of a document culled from the captured Iraqi documents that the US found during Operation Iraqi Freedom. This particular memo, dated March 17, 2001, comes from a brigadier general in the Iraqi Air Force and requests a list of volunteers from all units under his command for suicide attackers. The memo explicitly explains the targets for these terrorist attacks, as the original translation from Joseph Shahda shows:
The top secret letter 2205 of the Military Branch of Al Qadisya on 4/3/2001 announced by the top secret letter 246 from the Command of the military sector of Zi Kar on 8/3/2001 announced to us by the top secret letter 154 from the Command of Ali Military Division on 10/3/2001 we ask to provide that Division with the names of those who desire to volunteer for Suicide Mission to liberate Palestine and to strike American Interests and according what is shown below to please review and inform us.
When I posted this document, readers of this blog questioned the accuracy of the translation. People know that Joseph translated this for Free Republic, a strongly pro-war website, and that it was distributed by Laurie Mylroie, another pro-war commentator. Skeptics felt that this pedigree lent itself to a possibly warped interpretation of the memo. While the accuracy of the translation remained in question, the actual text -- which showed an active Iraqi terror program aimed at Americans -- would not get the attention it deserved.
In order to solve this problem, I decided to hire two Arabic translators on my own.

ping for news!
Excellent :) I am glad that Captain's Quarters pursued the truth all the way. Thank you Captain.
Great job by both of you!
I could have done better with the Title....
It is almost amusing that anyone doubts the credibility of your translations. The documents you are translating are on the public record. You didn't write them. And you certainly aren't the only person capable of translating Arabic to English. You just happen to be the only person who is willing to go the extra mile (and then some) to reveal the truth. The fact that the mainstream media, with all its resources and capability, won't do what you are doing speaks volumes. You are a true American hero and represent the best of why the MSM is dying and sites like FreeRepublic are thriving. We are all in your debt.
Excellent news. Thanks to you both.
Outstanding!!!, Ernest, jveritas and CQ.
The only mention in my local media about the document translations dealt with the Russian/Iraq connection, followed by a denial by the Russians.
They published my letter to the editor relating to the Iraq/Al Quaeda connection last week, and there's been nary a single follow-up comment.
Outstanding! Credit where credit is due. Thanks jveritas and thanks EB for the ping.
I heard Ed on the Nortern Alliance radio program today announcing that your original translation was spot-on.
Great job! Thank you for bringing the truth to light!
Captain Ed is a Class Act!
Thanks for posting the news!
I like it, thanks.
We are not strongly 'pro-war'. We are strongly 'pro-American'. Both Iraq and Iran were threats to American Interests. If you don't believe that, just translate the Iraqi documents and/or listen to the words coming out of the President of Iran's mouth. IMHO.
I didn't mean pro-war as an insult; FR has strongly supported the Iraq war, and that's all I meant.
Can you believe it's taken me this long to finally get a login?
1000 thanks yous Captain for going the extra mile!
Thanks for dropping by....we deeply appreciate what tremendous Good you are doing with your Blog!!!
...hey, there we go. We need Saddam to be found innocent, then move to York Neuvo, live for six months, gain voting rights, then run for Senate Against Hillary. Maybe then the American left will treat these people as enemies...
Now that we have established the translation of the memo from the Iraqi Air Force general to all units requesting volunteers for suicide missions against American "interests", the timing of the memo appears to fit into a disturbing sequence in the months prior to 9/11. This memo is dated March 17, 2001, less than six months prior to the coordinated al-Qaeda attack on the US, at a time when the AQ plotters and pilots appeared to be in close proximity to Iraqi intelligence agents in Europe.

Welcome Aboard, Skipper!
You wouldn't happen to be the same Capt. I reported..."Good Morning Captain. The Officer of the Deck sends his respects and wishes to report the hour of 0800......"?
Thanks for presenting CQ to the Web.
Yep and thank you Ernest for the ping.
I appreciate it.
ON THE NET...
These Docs help, but the Libs and Media will continue to Disbelieve in thier existence, unless WE start shouting...
In the end, disproving "The Great Liberal Lie" boils down to getting Wilson's Deposition UNDER OATH in the Libby trial...
You da man! I love your website. I didn't say "blog" because I didn't want to offend you. :D
Couldn't have said it better myself!
However, now that the information is established, we can certainly work to shove it down the Lamestream Media's throat until they do acknowledge it.
Seems like Tony Snow, Mark Levin and Brit Hume may be able to help kickstart this effort; they're not blinkered media folks.
I, for one, would absolutely love to watch Perky Katie be cornered into reporting this; her scowl would be reason enough for me to watch the See,BS! Evening Snooz for the first time since the Challenger blew up.
Be sure and read Captain Ed's comments linked at #28!
Isn't it fair to say, compared to Saddam, that the Serbs weren't much of a threat to anyone? Where was all the fuss about Dill & sHrillary's lies?
Thought you might be interested in this.
Welcome, "officially", and thanks for spreading these revelations.
The memo's chronology seems confusing until I realized dates are presented in Euro format: day/month/year. If I'm reading this correctly, Saddam was recruiting terrorist pilots from the ranks of his air force--to strike Israel and US assets--six months prior to 9/11/01. Seems to me that if anyone's upset with Bush, it should be that he didn't attack Iraq a lot sooner.
Good point; it threw me for a moment. The dates are given day-month-year in the European style, meaning that the request for suicide volunteers was in March of 2001.
You're doing great work!
Plus, I have always thought you have the best header on the web!
Uh oh. You are a Freeper and therefore any fact checking you did is not valid, Sorry.
Thank God you are on our side too!
Great work and congratulations on the credit you are finally getting.
Welcome to Free Republic, Captain! I read your blog everyday and listen to you on the Patriot in Mpls. on Saturdays. You guys rock!
Thanks for giving jveritas a well-deserved spotlight. We regard him as an American hero around here. ;^)
Jveritas pointed out in one of his erlier translations that the Iraqis use the European notation for dates - day-month-year.
Some fantastic info on this thread. Open source info and pyjamahedeen beats Old Media any day!
Actually, I have been suspicious of the possibility that Clinton's bombing of Serbia was the trigger that caused the Russian Chekist to take a hostile position towards the US and NATO. Some of us were worried about that possibility way back then. No confirmation yet in the historic time-lines. At the very least it was a contributing factor or a minor justification.
