This article puts the debate in the correct arena.
It is U.S. Immigration Department which needs to be overhauled. Not our laws. The immigration laws we have are not the problem. The problem is that the laws are not being upheld.
That is the fault of our Immigration Department.
No matter how lofty ideals NEW laws might represent, the laws will not be enforced.
Let's get the discussion focused on exactly WHERE our problem lies. It is with our Immigration department their refusal to do their jobs.
Is not immigration under the Executive Branch? I don't know much about it -- but in the next 10 days I am going to know more.

This is exactly the problem. The Immigration department is in the Executive Branch. The Legislative Branch makes the laws that are supposed to be enforced and has Oversight. Just think about all the "hearings", aka theater, that our congresspeople have to showcase Admin officials that they love to pick on - Rumsfeld and Pentagon officials come to mind.
Have you ever heard of a hearing on why x million unauthorized aliens are living in America? I haven't.
