Immigration Advocates Rally Around U.S. (turn on your TV, invasion alert!)

Thousands of demonstrators wearing white T-shirts and waving signs and American flags filled the streets of an immigrant neighborhood Monday for the first of dozens of marches planned in a national day of action billed as a "campaign for immigrants' dignity."

The two-mile Atlanta march was in support of immigrant rights nationally as well as in protest of state legislation awaiting Gov. Sonny Perdue's signature. If signed, it would require that adults seeking many state-administered benefits prove they are in the country legally.

Carlos Carrera, a construction worker from Mexico, held a large banner that read: "We are not criminals. Give us a chance for a better life."

"We would like them to let us work with dignity. We want to progress along with this country," Carrera said. He said he had been in the United States for 20 years.

In Pittsburgh, a smaller group marched to Sen. Arlen Specter's office.

"We all know pay is not the same everywhere and lot of people won't work for the minimum here, so if they won't take the job, what's the problem?" said 47-year-old Jose Salazar.

Monday's demonstrations followed a day of rallies in 10 states that drew an estimated 350,000 to 500,000 in Dallas alone.

With an overhaul of immigration law stalled in Congress, demonstrators urged lawmakers to help an estimated 11 million illegal immigrants settle legally in the United States.

"If we don't protest they'll never hear us," said Oscar Cruz, 23, a construction worker who marched in San Diego. Cruz, who came illegally to the U.S. in 2003, said he had feared a crackdown but felt emboldened by the large marches across the country in recent weeks.

Hey carlos, criminal invaders don't deserve to be heard you should consider yourself blessed we've tolerated you as long as we have.

Why doesn't the INA just arrest everyone and deport them? I mean.....logic would say the majority of the protesters are here illegally.

..or am I the only one that thought came to?

It is disgusting. I hope these marches have the complete opposite effect on public opinion. The one good thing about them is that they are getting people's attention.

What they fail to realize is that illegal aliens do not have the rights that U.S. citizens do.

Good question. They should arrest these demonstrators. This is beyond insanity - we have people invading this country and demanding that we just roll over and permit them to do it.

Perfect!

We have them all rounded up. We just need cattle trucks to show up, herd them in and take them south of the boarder to unload. Our illegal alien issue would be solved.

Have they really dumped the Mexican flags or is the MSM just being more careful to not show them this time?

chances are the few people arresting the illegals would be overpowered and killed. Do you think it would be safe for just a few officers to take on 500k people? Roll in the tanks...

I plan on working from home today. When they protested a a number of days ago, I couldn't even get around town to service my customers (was late to everything).

Funny how us LEGALS have to give right of way to the ILLEGALS so they can have the right to demand from us LEGALS.

All while making it impossible for me to work to pay for their ILLEGAL kids to go to school.

Our leaders are`cowards. The Dems see votes and the Pubs are cowards.

Laws don't matter anymore and apparently neither do our votes and the representation of legal citizens.

And so it begins.

This might get me forever banned from FR...but I can't help but believe that we need to have a little more clarity on just what we are against. I can't read the hearts and minds of other conservatives, but I fear that, for some, this issue is more about defending our "heritage" from outsiders than it is about security or law-abidingness. This is the real reason why passions are so high for some. I, for one, fear NOTHING from a population that is for the most part ethical and hardworking, regardless of their race or ethnicity. I understand the argument that we cannot condone lawbreaking (i.e. illegal border crossing) and we need to make our borders more secure. Those are reasonable arguments. The other arguments ... I don't think so.

Yes, you are correct. "Crisis Strategy" in action, and ACORN running it.

This whole protest thing is akin to Scott Peterson marching in favor of abortion saying, "I am not a criminal!"
