Just to clarify:

I do not believe that Pollard's treason revealed agents in the Soviet Union. Simply beause he was not involved in that kind of work. That is a canard - possibly started by Ames.

I do not know if any of his information enventually reached USSR. However, that's the problem spying for a friendly nation - once the person let go of the information it is no longer his to control - and it could end up in worse places than intended. That if nothing else is Pollard's guilt.

I agree that many things in Hersh's article seemed quite hard to believe - but then a lot of what he writes seems to be a mixture of fiction and self evident truths, made up into great revelations.

Finally, as you wrote in an earlier post, it seemed like Pollard had mental problems. The same with Ames, and Burgess and many other spies. Strange that so many manage to get away with their strange behaviour for so long.

The Pollard camp has announced his impending release on several occasions in the past.

Jonathan Pollard was a U.S. Navy intelligence analyst in the 1980's when he came across information vital to Israel's security that was not being transferred to the Jewish state - contrary to an intelligence-sharing agreement between the U.S. and Israel. He then passed along the information to Israel, ultimately helping Israel to protect itself from Iraqi missiles. He was later caught while trying to find asylum in the Israeli Embassy in Washington. Despite a plea bargain agreement, he received a life sentence with no parole for an offense that usually nets 2-4 years.

This is just a bit of the B.S. in that essay. It's merely a lobbying piece.

My intent was not to have folks to start screaming and cussing at our president.

Understood. These days, however, every thread on FreeRepublic eventually gets hijacked by the anti-immgration folks, and is turned into another opportunity to bash Bush.

"Is there really people here who believe this story?"

Mrs. Pollard's story about being visited? Nope.

But I'm intrigued with the Aldrich Ames angle. Rich spy story of the Cold War era type.

Plus Hersh is involved so red flags wave high.

Is it possible that there is something really wrong with Bush? I mean mentally. Things happen. People snap. I'm not saying there is. But he did sound really strange (even for him) today, in some sound bites, I heard. Of course, it's probably nothing and the real reason for his behavior is simply the fact that he is not what conservatives convinced themselves that he was.

Thanks for the link. He not only "spied for Israel," Pollard "spied for money." Let him rot.

As was stated earlier, if Bush pardons Pollard, it just another way he is dumping on his base. I'm surprised if Bush received 10% of the Jewish vote.

Just when you think Bush's poll numbers could not get any lower, then comes this. Rove must have lost his senses.

If Bush pardons Pollard his poll numbers will be lower than Jimmy Carter's.

Pollard is a disgrace and as acted like he never did anything wrong and is an overbearing, arrogant pr*ck. And his helpers act the same. As an American Jew, I was shamed by his deeds and antics. However, there is some mercy in my soul. If and when Pollard reaches the normal retirement age for his birth year, I suggest he be deported to a country of his choice with no re-entry ever to the United States.

I find it interesting how many posters here are primed and ready to skewer Bush over an unconfirmed report.

Seriously, you're surprised?

I'm not; the Patsies and the third partiers have slid under the door disguised as conservatives.

If bush does this I will be PISSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And that is the intent. If he does many will be angry. If he doesn't many others will be angry. Either way the left wins and the president loses.
