Oprah Winfrey: Wealth Is 'A Good Thing'
People ^

Posted on 04/11/2006 7:46:00 PM PDT by Lurking in Kansas

...Winfrey, 52, who is reportedly worth more than $1 billion, said she doesn't feel guilty about her wealth. "I was coming back from Africa on one of my trips," she said. "I had taken one of my wealthy friends with me. She said, 'Don't you just feel guilty? Don't you just feel terrible?' I said, 'No, I don't. I do not know how me being destitute is going to help them.' Then I said when we got home, 'I'm going home to sleep on my Pratesi sheets right now and I'll feel good about it.' "

Why should OPRAH feel terrible? Just because she's BLACK? Ain't that like a rich libby. I guess black folks can't be rich and enjoy their money, not worrying about the poor, benighted masses.

I guess none of her money is spent on a PR person/publicist to advise her what to say in magazines.

Oprah does a heck of a lot for people. She's not what I'd call stingy. I applaud her for her generosity, and I applaud her for not letting others make her feel guilty for having attained such success.

YES, but, I want to know where she stands on the DEATH Tax....THAT will tell me everything I want to know....if like Gates, Sr, and other VERY rich, she says she supports it, I'm NOT happy.....because the VERY rich PROTECT their money in foundations and trusts, and it's disingenous to say they are FOR paying the Death tax, when it's likely they will hardly pay ANYTHING. Now, on the other hand, if someone accumulates a business or real estate, or inheritance that totals 4-5 million....they will pay MORE taxes. And furthermore, it's the NEWLY wealthy who are hurt the most....women owned businesses, and minority owned businesses....STEPPING DOWN FROM MY SOAPBOX now....

I'm still trying to figure out the concept of the wealthy urban liberal.

The idea, as I see it, is write checks and vote for politicians who will raise taxes on earners, aka, 'the rich' so that their money can be sent to Washington bureaucrats who take their cut, so they can then send it back to the cities to pay for 'social programs' cut checks to support 'the poor'.

Why not just cut out the middle men and do some actual good?

Really, why are there wealthy liberals in the first place?

Hillary, with her "rich getting richer" won't play well with Oprah.

And her fans.

No problem with her wealth. I just don't like the way she always pretends to make fun of herself when she is actually making herself a victim.

You betcha! All most liberals really are is 'rich that feel guilty for being rich'. Or 'guilt ridden republicans'. Well. Ya know what ? When I get there, I'll feel about 0.01% guilt. Aw. Naw. Not even that much.

She's an entertainer. She has a shtick. And, apparently, she's very, very good at what she does.
