After all others had been silenced, his lonely act of defiance against the Chinese regime catalyzed the world. What became of him? And 17 years later, has China succeeded in erasing this event from its history? The spring of 1989 saw the largest pro-democracy demonstration in the history of China's communist regime. The following timeline tracks how the protests began in April among university students in Beijing, spread across the nation, and ended on June 4 with a final deadly assault by an estimated force of 300,000 soldiers from People's Liberation Army (PLA). Throughout these weeks, China's top leaders were deeply divided over how to handle the unrest, with one faction advocating peaceful negotiation and another demanding a crackdown. Excerpts from their statements, drawn from The Tiananmen Papers, reveal these internal divisions.

Guess what.
Couldn't find it.
tankman ping
He married Lori Petty and they lived happily ever after.
I have a friend who was a student at Tiananmen square...
And I'll bet hers was still bigger than his.
A caption for that image, remembering he did not take a defiant stance, he was carrying groceries, might be:
" What Were You Thinking ?
"Please, do not shoot the people!"
Serves as a reminder as to the wonderful neaderthals we're doing business with.
Tank man is one guy who would not have to climb a fence to get in my country! We need gutsy people like him. I'm sure he would not be running around in the streets throwing a hissey fit and waving the Mexican flag!

Frontline also had the show, "Gunning For Saddam" http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/gunning/ that talked about his WMD programs and ties to terrorism, including interviews with defectors and video footage taken by UN Inspectors (before they were kicked out).
Whatever happened to him, I wonder?...........
