Amnesty, aka "Earned Legalization," aka a "Guest Worker Program" is said to be part of the solution to the uncontrolled flood of millions of foreign citizens illegally forcing their way into the United States each year.
Amnesty for 2.6 million illegal aliens in 1986 worked so well that today the number of illegal aliens in the country has risen to at least 11 million -- a 423% increase in immigration crime. It's almost like rewarding illegal behavior causes more illegal behavior.
But this amnesty will be different. If we reward the 11 million immigration criminals currently here in violation of our visa, tax, and employment laws, we are told, that will help end illegal immigration by bringing these admirable folks "out of the shadows."
Well, apparently it has brought them out of the shadows and straight into the hot desert sun of the border region. The Associated Press reports that just the talk of amnesty has caused a huge spike in border infiltration, as hundreds of thousands more illegal aliens rush to get into the country in time to qualify for all the freebies currently being contemplated in Congress.
The AP reported that Francisco Loureiro, the manager of a "shelter" providing space to people waiting for night to break into America, said that "he has not seen such a rush of migrants since 1986, when the United States allowed 2.6 million illegal residents to get American citizenship."
Occupants of Loureiro's criminal staging area were up an impressive 33% over this time last year. One tenant, whom we'll call "Ramirez," because that's the fake name he will use on his amnesty application, explained why he finally decided to sneak across the border, "My brothers said there is plenty of work there, and that it looks like they will start giving (work) permits."
Way to go, John McCain! Problem solved, Harry Reid! Again it's almost like rewarding illegal behavior causes more, not less, illegal behavior.
If this amnesty works as well as the last, and it looks like it will, we can look forward to being told in twenty years that amnesty is the only way to bring 46 million immigration criminals "out of the shadows" and into the voting booth.
Gee...who'da thunkit?
Like we couldn't see this coming.
Exactly. I hate all these idiots who think that the first thing we have to do is decide what to do with the illegals already here. First plug the leak. Then bail the boat.
I will bet the pols actually thought we couldn't. The days of being spoon fed BS are over.
You know what, we've seen what happened in the past after amnesties were granted. We've seen what the mere mention of it resulted in. We predicted what another one would do, whether called an amnesty or a 'guest-worker with the right to be naturalized' down the road.
Now we're seeing it.
Either our elected officials in Washington are stupid beyond comprehension, or they actually want to turn this into Mexico.
Either way, it's clear that our Washington officals have Jumped the Shark!
Yep, and to make the water run out faster fine the crap out of employers. Otherwise, we are converting the country to a third world swamp.
Agreed!!!
Now we're getting it by the bucketful.
This is what I refer to as a BFO. (Blinding flash of the obvious.)
Granted, most elected officials can be downright stupid and lazy, but this behavior goes beyond cheap labor for GOP businesses and the Hispanic vote for Democrats. This is totally senseless, mindless behavior that undermines the very foundation of our Republic. In a military sense, its a bloodless invasion and takeover by a foreign entity. In 50 years, it won't matter anyway. You and I won't recognize the good old USA.
That's the ticket. To use another metaphor, we can continue to swat mosquitos or we can drain the swamp.
Note that the current debate emphacizes an amnesty program (that's what it is, though they can call it a `Guest Worker' program, or whatever they like) for current Mexican nationals in our country breaking our law.
So how much have you heard about `enforcement', or stopping future Mexicans? Three million in `86 (probably amazed that they were pardoned, rather than `booted'); twenty years later, 11 million. In twenty more years?
Build real walls or fences at their favorite crossing places, then the Border Patrol--now known as `The Welcome Wagon: Bienvenidos!'--can be expected to do its job.
Sadly, I agree. We're a nation that couldn't be conquered, so our leaders decided to give it away...
Yard sale, going cheap...
It's deja vu all over again!
Well, apparently it has brought them out of the shadows and straight into the hot desert sun of the border region. Big surprise this.
Hmmm. Have any of the amnesty idiot thought of this little fact: If you "legalize" the illegals they will have to paid more, subject to various regulations, increase your official headcount making the employer subject to certain laws, etc. In other words, it will make our new "guest" workers cost almost as much as hiring Americans.
ALL of which creates a market for more illegals...
CLOSE THE EFFIN' BORDERS!!!!!
I do hope (I think I can hope) over the Easter break the Senators and Reps get such an earful from their constituents that they will come back with a stunned look on their faces. Particularly those Senators up for election this year.
And the blame goes to.... Bush43, McCain, Kennedy, Spector...
The immigration issue is the one issue that is more likely to destroy America in the end then anyother. More then CFR, Roe v Wade, USSC picks..... sorry those issues all pale in comparison to open borders, illegal immigration and amnesty every 10-20 years.
Define please.
Almost?
And that's the reason why I voted for Buchanan in 2000. Bush had made it clear where his vision was going to lead us on this issue, and this issue trumps all others.
If your homeland is in danger of shifting by nearly 50% in ten to thirty years, is it wise to vote in a guy that will facilitate it? I didn't think so.
Buchanan has done a low grade meltdown ever since, and his Middle-East views were always suspect. What can I say.
We're saving the Middle-East and disolving at home. Can't win for loosin'.
Believe me, there are many portions of the USA that you wouldn't recognize now. I live in Calif. We have entire areas of cities here and entire small towns that look just like Mexico....with better roads.
You have to see it to believe it.
I agree with your "who's to blame" list in total, although the full House and Senate will share in the shame of what is being perpetrated on U.S. Citizens.
In the end though, no one can say that Bush hasn't been the best President Mexico has ever had, and if things continue on as they have, he'll go down as the single worst one we've had.
We will likely be dealing with Bush's domestic fiascos for the rest of time. That's not to say he hasn't done some good things on that front, but this issue is going to make them fade away in comparison.
Swamped is right, by the looks of the number of illegals marching through the cities. Hard to drain the swamp when you're up to your butt in snake-oil salesmen.
Hate to say this but our current problem goes back to Reagan. I loved the man but clearly remember when he signed the amnest bill back then and he assured us that the new laws would take care of the problem.
Ain't buying that one again.
Btw, I didn't go as far as you did, but I respect your decision with PJB. I voted for him in the 96 GOP primary. Dole was a loser from the get-go. Today, I don't think I'd vote for Pat for street cleaner.
Remember that amnesty bill was signed toward the end of Reagan's term. In that bill were laws that should have prevented what has taken place. Those laws were never enforced.
Reagan was told there were around one million illegal immigrants in country at the time. Within two and a half years, three point five million had signed up for amnesty.
Even as President, you can't guarantee that you're getting the correct information, or that the people who come behind you won't sell out the nation.
This being said, an amnesty or the promise of naturalization will always be a draw. He should have known that. And our leaders today have no excuse for not realizing it.
In 20/20 hindsight, its easy to now see how Reagan's signoff on that 86 amnesty deal was a bureaucratic blunder. Having said that, Reagan didn't support open borders. Reagan did said: "A nation without borders is not a nation." I don't believe Reagan would support the guest worker-amnesty proposal being pushed by the President and his senate cohorts today. Reagan wasn't one for making the same mistake twice.
Duuuhhhhhh!
This article proves the point many of us here are making, and that any 3rd grader would understand: if you condone or reward bad behavior, you can expect more bad behavior.
Or, leave your door open at night and someone may walk in; on the other hand, lock it and they probably won't ('burglary': the *breaking* and entering into the dwelling house of another . . .')
The `movers and shakers' in Wash. DC--including the occupant in the White House--are resisting a common sense solution to this problem for one simple reason: they prefer the status quo ante, or things as they are, and they will do all they can do to: 1.) block enforcement of our immigration laws and 2.) pardon 11 million (+-) illegal aliens in the USA.
Our thoughts are similar with regard to what's taking place and the impact it will have.
I pretty much agree with you on Buchanan today also. I have no idea what influences some of his beliefs. As far as I am concerned he's a disaster on foreign policy, and has ventured into the nether world on other issues as well.
I wouldn't vote for him again.
Probably there as many licensed contractors who hire illegals as well. My snake-oil remark was an allusion to all our lawmakers who seemed to be joined at the wallet in prescribing a non-cure for the problem.
Exactly correct, sue any congresscriter who votes amnesty ahead of enforcing laws already on the books and build that huge fence. Hell, I would even support a special tax directed at building that wall o keep out the invasion.
I often wonder how easy it really is for these invaders to actually go back and forth. Do you think Mexico really wants them back?
Well, surprise, surprise, surprise!
The cure would be to vote every S.O.B. out of office and start with new blood on both sides,But we have a better chance of winning the lottery.
Reagan's quote is so simple yet so true and what astounds me is the amazing disconnect between the empty rhetoric vs. the reality of what ill. immigration is doing to this country. All these politicians from Bush on down run around bragging about their stance on national security and have Homeland Security policies in place to shake down gray haired old folks in airports yet leave our borders fairly porous for any number of cretins to enter at will.
The Communists coined a word called "psychopolitics" to describe their ongoing efforts and techniques to create a subservient society that presented very little threat to the power of the state and when we see what's happening with the continued de-construction of this country one has to wonder if certain tactics to do so are coming right out of the commie playbook.
I always wondered why Russians drank so much vodka......maybe it was to help stem the pain of "living" in such a wretched existence where one seems completely powerless to stop the lies and distortions coming from their (alleged) leaders.
I think it is a combination of both.
Of course they are. The wealthy psychopaths who own political offices install pliable dupes and instruct them to bring down our republic so they can integrate America into some larger socialist domain where they will be the administrators.
The bush legacy...........
You seem to have defined that well.
If you had the least bit of interest, you would notice that the cut-off date on all the reform bills is Jan 7, 2004.

Option 1:
Build a wall, prosecute criminals, deport
Option 2:
Join history's scrap-heap of failed progressivist regimes
I'll take option #1, TYVM
Aint that a surprise? NOT
