Dick Cheney Donates Millions to Charity
NewsMax.com ^ | April 15, 2006 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 04/14/2006 9:37:44 PM PDT by Carl/NewsMax

In one of the largest sums ever donated to charity by a U.S. public official, Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne gave away nearly $7 million last year to help the poor and to medical research.

According to income tax information released by the White House on Friday, the Cheneys' adjusted gross income in 2005 was $8,819,006.

The sum was largely the result of Mr. Cheney's stock options from Halliburton and royalties from three books written by Mrs. Cheney.

The Cheneys gave more than three-quarters of their income - $6,869,655 - to several charities, including George Washington University's Cardiothoracic Institute and a charity for low-income high school students in the Washington, D.C. area, Capital Partners for Education.

The Cheneys' charitable generosity stands in marked contrast to that of their predecessors, whose sometimes stingy donations became a national embarassment.

In 1997 for instance, Al and Tipper Gore contributed just $353 to charity, a sum that raised eyebrows even in friendly media circles.

The Los Angeles Times noted, for instance, that the Gores' slender donation "caused some bewilderment in philanthropic circles because of the vice president's 'good guy' image as an advocate for public service and social causes."

The same year the Gores gave $353 to charity, they reported $197,729 in adjusted gross income.

<< The Cheneys are good people. It would be interesting to know what the Clintons contribute to charity. >>

No it wouldn't.

You already know only too well that the Cli'tons see themselves AS a charity!

And the Cheneys are, indeed, Good Americans.

God bless them all.

Happy Easter - B A

It would be nice if this charity donation stuff was brought up whenever lefties start whining about his blind trust.

The Chenys produce, therefore have Taxable Income

Poster children of the left like Kerry and Kennedy are just aged recips of trust funds and political maneuvering so the smoke screen must be deployed, Drudge and MSM are happy to oblige.

The $1.9 refund was the AP headline. The $7 donation was buried.

They are. But, the MSM and liberals being who they are, will focus on the $1.9 million refund he got back as a result of these donations.

That is EXACTLY what the MSM did...CNN had a poll rather one would be able to live comfortably with the tax amount paid by president Bush or if one would require the 1.9 million paid in taxes by the Cheney's.

It would be interesting to know what the Clintons contribute to charity.

Used underwear--demanding a receipt for a tax deduction; we have it archived in the Clinton Presidential Library/Bordello. Despite their eight and twelve million book advances, speakers fees, Dubai consulting fees, et cetera.

I wish he had given it to the RNC instead

How do you know he didn't donate to the RNC? Political contributions are NOT tax deductible.

Vice President Cheney and Sec. Rumsfeld are great patriots and we are fortunate to have them serving our country. They obviously are not putting up with all the crap thrown at them because they need the money. I believe they saw the disaster made after 8 years of Clinton and decided they needed to serve.

"Wonder how the DUmmies spin this?"

Easy, Cheney mae money off of Halliburton which is the reason we went to war in the first place.

What I would like to see are the comparisons of tax returns between all potential 2008 preseidential candidates.

Bush paid 30% in taxes. IIRC Kerry's 2003 tax return showed the Kerry's paying 4%.

How about this report on John Kerry from 2004:

Kerry's returns from 1995 and earlier, before his marriage to Heinz, have sometimes attracted criticism over the issue of charitable giving. In 1995, according to published reports, Kerry reported a taxable income of $126,179, and charitable contributions of $0. In 1994, he reported income of $127,884, and charitable donations of $2,039. In 1993, he reported income of $130,345, and contributions of $175. In 1992, he reported income of $127,646, and contributions of $820. In 1991, he reported income of $113,857, and contributions of $0.

Come on Phil...The Clintons are as American as apple pie.

Where else can people go from Arkansas trailer trash to the top job in America. Where else can Arkansas trailer trash get away with money laundering, smuggle drugs, commit murder, but right here in the good old U.S.A.. The Clinton success allowed them to give away America's crown jewels secrets of nuclear, and missile technology...for money.

Believe me, the superior court judge will slowly flush the Peter Paul/Clinton lawsuit down the toilet too. Because, all judges in California are tightly connected to the democrat party.
