It was a fleeting victory, but one nonetheless. By taking a conservative tone with his constant broadside against illegal immigration, Lou Dobbs managed to beat Brit Hume in the 25-54 demographic last week.

Interesting. I'd chalk it up to most of us like to hear news from a perspective that echos our own core beliefs. Fox is too middle of the road to suit me.

Fox is too middle of the road to suit me. On most issues they're middle-of-the-road, but on illegal immigration they're firmly planted on the transnationalist Left.

It was because Brett Hume wasn't on all week. He's the best anchorman in the business. I watch him every time I can.

Brit still rules the News Universe in MY house, though.

Lou definately has my respect on this issue. He doesn't pander to the left and he does not back down for what he believes in.

Lou Dobbs:
"There is no nation, on the face of the earth, of any industrialized nation, whose borders are any more open as ours. Despite all thats occurred in security since September 11 . . . we were just discussing one truism that exists: if one million illegal aliens, estimated, can cross our borders, each year, without being caught, what can a terrorist do? It is a remarkable situation . . ."

Lou does not normally beat Brit.
However, this says to me that the stop illegal immigration cause has a huge following and will follow the news to where there is support for that.
It also suggests that FOX is vulnerable due to their neo-wishy/washy "fair and balanced" stance.

I also think Brit and that show has a different role. Its sort of an traditional news show even though we know Brit is Conservative. I don't think its Brit's job to be a cheereleader for either side on this. I mean I love the talking head shows but after a while it can't be the only news source on Fox esp in the Evening.
To: Dr. Scarpetta
He's being trashed all over for his anti-illegal views.Hmmmm, the "trashing" of Dobbs by the very short-sighted, I'd have to say.

However it seems the news guys are fair and balanced and the opinion guys at FOX are balanced more to the left.
I guess Brit is a news guy in his 6PM show whereas Lou is showing opinion in that same time slot.

Wow this seems to be a "newsbusters" online poll and not a real Neilsen rating.
But what the hey, when you get desperate gotta promote your CNN hack somehow.
A tipster asks: "Did you notice that Lou Dobbs beat Special Report with Brit Hume last week in the Demo?" Well, no I didn't, but thank you for pointing it out! Using TVNewser's daily scoreboard, here's a 6 p.m. ratings track from the week of April 3:
SHOW: M / T / W / T / F
Hume: 185 / 183 / 215 / 222 / 189
Dobbs: 159 / 269 / 186 / 233 / 198
That's an average of roughly 199 demo viewers a night for Hume, and roughly 209 a night for Dobbs. (Notice how Hume's viewership is more constant than Dobbs though.) Hume still had more total (older) viewers.

The only problem I have with Lou Dobbs is WHERE HAS HE BEEN FOR THE PAST 30 YEARS .Excuse me folks but Bob Grant was warning on talk radio for years that this mess was coming and no one wanted to hear it because they were labeled as racists and bigots! The only reason Dobbs has latched on to this is because he cant stand Bush either and he can club him over the head with this issue.
Im still waiting for someone to tell me what the quota for European immigrants is.Where do, as they say,11 million mexicans get to come in to this country and just stay ,who the hell are they .Why cant we take some from England ,France, Albania ,Romania ,wont they do jobs Americans wont do?
At this rate this whole country will be mexicans

Funny how a flaming liberal like Lou Dobbs becomes the golden boy for supposed "conservatives".
Dobbs doesn't give a d*mn about illegal immigration. All he is trying to do is use the issue to help the Democrats in 2006 and 2008.
Says a lot about the people who have fallen for his shenanigans and suddenly proclaimed him the savior of the United States.

Heard Dobbs on the radio this morning. Going on and on and on about corporate corruption.
Just forgot to mention that all these corporate failures happened during Clinton. He then went on to lament the level of compensation for corporate execs. Corporations are making money, business is good, why shouldn't the CEO's be compensated.

Dobb's previous rant was OUTSOURCING OUTSOURCING OUTSOURCING.
When that got old as the economy began booming and unemployment began dropping he switched to a new rant.
The blending of national security and the immigrant issue is quite the perfect storm for those who wish to have complex issues solved with simple rhetoric.
