I Joined the Army instead of the Marines
Nick

Posted on 04/15/2006 2:06:04 PM PDT by LittleJohnnyEdwards

You may remember a few months back around Novemeber, I was going to join the Marines. I finally told my parents and they freaked but they comprmised. I talked to both the Marines and Army I felt the Army gave me the best opportunity to serve my country in the way I want.I joined the Delay Entry Program in which I was able to move up a rank before going to boot camp. I'll be a signal support specialist, I leave two weeks after my graduation for boot camp. I look forward to serving in Iraq or Afghanistan that's why I joined. For me I couldn't sit back and agree with a war, and have other people fight for our country. After four years of service I plan on going to Texas State university and earn a Sports Marketing degree. If I still feel our country still needs men like me, i'll go in as officer.

Good luck. The service is what you make of it. You will encounter sh!+birds as well as dedicated soldiers. My recommendation would be to choose your friends carefully.

Regards,
LH

I ended up serving with the Army for 20 years. When you become a member of the armed services, you become a part of a family for the rest of your life.

Today's Army has changed so much in the last 10 years, that I no longer recognize it. Has it changed for the better? HELL YES!

The next few months are going to be absolute hell for you. If not, then you need to quit ASAP!

There is a reason why Boot Camp is like that, since they have the most important job in the Army. Their job is to change how a man thinks and to mold him into a soldier.

Changing how a man thinks, is one of the most difficult things possible to teach, and the Army does a great job at it.

Soon, you will learn how to absolutely HATE your Drill Instructor, and if not, then he is not doing his job. A few weeks later, that same Drill Instructor (that you wanted to murder) will become your most respected leader.

When you have learned these lessons, then you have become a member of our military family. At that time, I will call you my brother.

The best to you. Any of them are honorable and none more important than the others. Thank you for serving our country. My son was in the Army for 6 years. He's in the Navy now, protecting Marines:')

"No i'm not related to edwards at all I just haven't changed my screen name."

I am so proud of you. My nbr 1 son just left the Army, and nbr 2 son is gearing up for his AIT at Sill in a few weeks.

Perhaps you'll hook up with each other some day. You never know. Stranger things have happened.

Be careful and again, thank you!

HOOAH!

This proud army mom thanks you:)

One piece of advice I'll pass on- from my Screamin' Eagle son to any and all who decide to enlist. Before boot camp- get in shape. There will be enormous challenges ahead- if you arrive in really good physical condition- it's one less thing to deal with. Don't leave home without being to do a minimum of 50 sit-ups and push-ups easily- and be able to easily run 5 miles.

Godspeed:)

Good luck and God Speed.

But Sports Marketing? Ugh. Maybe the Army will beat a more sensible career/college choice into you. ;)
