" . . . accurately reflected the nation's growing discontent with President Bush."

Circular reasoning. The nation's "growing discontent with President Bush" is largely based on lies and distortions fostered by the media. So the author should say that "the nation's growing discontent with President Bush reflects the news media's relentless and unfair criticisms of Bush." Such as the "Katrina fiasco," a "fiasco" in which the actual deaths (1,400 - 2,000) constituted about 3% of what had been predicted by computer models (60,000+). And even though everyone goes about their business as always, save for slightly longer waits at airports, the media has everyone convinced that our civil liberties have been utterly destroyed, or are about to be.

That inbred circular reasoning will be the ultimate end to the MSM as we know them. Inbred arrogance destroys a lot of organizations. Today's market place has zero tolerance for the behavior of the NY Slimes execs down to their liars, er so called reporters.
