Giuliani Hosts Ralph Reed Fund-Raiser (Also Will Raise Money for Arnold Schwarzenegger)
NewsMax ^ | 4/19/06

Just days after a religious conservative questioned Rudolph Giuliani's views, ex-Christian Coalition leader Ralph Reed said the former New York City mayor will headline a fund-raiser for him next month.

Reed is running for lieutenant governor in Georgia. His campaign has been undercut by his ties to disgraced former lobbyist Jack Abramoff, who is facing prison time after pleading guilty to charges of conspiracy, tax evasion and fraud.

The Reed campaign trumpeted the appearance with Giuliani, distributing an invitation on Tuesday which featured a smiling photo of the two men together.

Giuliani, a potential 2008 presidential candidate, was widely praised for his leadership of the city after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. On Sunday, the Rev. Jerry Falwell said he admired Giuliani, but could not support him for president because of "irreconcilable differences on life and family."

Giuliani supports abortion rights, gay rights and gun control.

The appearance with Reed could help Giuliani reach out to religious conservatives who would be critical in a GOP primary.

In Pennsylvania on Tuesday, Giuliani campaigned for another conservative, Sen. Rick Santorum, highlighting the Republican's record on national security. Santorum trails Democratic challenger Bob Casey in polls but has narrowed the gap recently.

Santorum's campaign and Giuliani played down the former mayor's differences with the senator. Giuliani said Santorum has "taken many positions. Most of them I agree with."

Reed needs to put on about 20 pounds so he doesn't look like a 19 year old.

Strange bedfellows.

There's always been something in Ralph Reed's eyes I don't trust.

Can I be the first on the thread to say this "proves" Giuliani is a "conservative?"

If it's a choice between Guiliani and McCain, I'm going with Guiliani.

Nope.

On social issues, Rudy actually runs to the left of alot of democrats.

Do you know how hard it has to be to have a more left wing position on gun control then Hillary Clinton?

"Reed needs to put on about 20 pounds so he doesn't look like a 19 year old."

And acquire some intellectual maturity so he doesn't act or talk like one.

Ralph Reed is a political whore.

Of course, that is something we've known for a long time...

If those are my choices, I'm staying home.

Stange bedfellows.

Not really, while Rudy is pretty liberal himself, he raises money and generally supports conservative politicians.

It sounds strange, but with the exception of McCain, he usually tries to back the most conservative candidates around.

Brilliant:
I think you put your finger on the NUB of the situation right there.

Despite all the teeth-clenching from those on the right, it may well come down to "ELECTABILITY"... you know, the ability to WIN the national electoral vote, defeat Hillary, that kind of stuff...

And thus it may well come down to McLame vs Rudy. Conservatives can either shriek and holler and let Hillary waltz back into the Oval Office for 4 years of hell for us,
or they can choose between the Backstabber and America's Mayor.

I will take Rudy over McLame 100 times out of 100.

___________

Maybe before Ralph went pol, but not now. Guiliani is a money machine and Mr. Reed would like to make a withdrawal.

1st Rudy is helping Santorom then Reed.
He is helping out social conservatives looking for their support when he runs.
Then all he will have to do is promise to appoint SCOTUS judges in the mold of Roberts and Alito.....he will call in the support...
and Rudy will be really hard to beat.

Good politics.
