CHICAGO (AP) -- Japanese adults can't get enough satisfaction, but Austria's mojo is working.
Sex is more satisfying in countries where women and men are considered equal, according to an international study of people between the ages of 40 and 80 by researchers at the University of Chicago.
Austria topped the list of 29 nations studied with 71 percent of those surveyed reported being satisfied with their sex lives.
Spain, Canada, Belgium and the United States also reported high rates of satisfaction.
The lowest satisfaction rate - 25.7 percent - was reported in Japan.
The study was led by sociologist Edward Laumann, considered a top authority on the sociology of sex, who believes the findings show that relationships based on equality lead to more satisfaction for both genders.
"Male-centered cultures where sexual behavior is more oriented toward procreation tend to discount the importance of sexual pleasure for women," Laumann said.
"When mama's not happy, nobody's happy," he said.
The study appears in the April issue of the Archives of Sexual Behavior. It was funded by Pfizer, which makes the impotence drug Viagra.
Researchers surveyed 27,500 people by phone, in person or by mail, depending on local practices. The difference in questioning methods was one of the study's limitations, the researchers noted.
A nation's level of health and education could contribute to the findings, said John DeLamater, a professor at the University of Wisconsin and editor of the International Journal of Sex Research, who was not involved in the research.
"It's conceivable that people in developed countries have more information about sexuality. And they're also healthier," DeLamater said. "Being better informed, and being in better shape, they may be more able to maintain a satisfying sex life."
Hmmmm...Sales of the "little blue pill" must be, Um, shrinking in Asia. ROFLMAO! :)
Why men marry bitchy women

So, just how does one become a top authority on the subject?
Yes, bring equality into new relationships, gentlemen, and watch how excited she gets.
At leaving you.
Only because they didn't conduct the survey in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Sudan, Iraq, etc.
Maybe.
Much more likely is that Japanese men have virtually NO power in the home, where they are lorded over by their mother AND their wife.
Who wants to bone down with someone who mostly cuts you out of all the decisions about the kids, and is constantly scolding you?
No American man, and not most Japanese men, either.
Bad study. There could be other reasons than equality contributing to low satisfaction e.g smaller penises.
Studies such as this one sometimes draw conclusions on things they only think they know...
New study:
"Sex is More Satisfying When Helen Thomas Isn't Around"
Another profound piece of scientific insight........
I wonder how this ties in with the studies that show Republicans as having generally more satisfying sex lives than Democrats.....
It's not an issue of who has more power, whoever may have more or less of it, in Japan.
I think Japan is the shining example because there are actually two different languages in the country. The one spoken by those of the female gender, if compiled into an unabridged dictionary, would be about six times the size of the Beijing phone book. The corresponding dictionary for members of the male gender would be a very slim volume, but every single word in the text would be all-caps, bold type, and underlined.
The point of the article is that communication promotes intimacy, which in turn, promotes...
Or at least that's my take, sticking up for a fellow Wisconsite.
That's not unusual -- but he is likely also having his twice-per-year bonus (likely around 5 months of salary or so in total) deposited into an account that the wife doesn't have access to.
Oops, Wisconsinite.
And do you think Japanese women speak KEIGO to their lovers/husbands...?!
Bwaaaah hahahahahha!
The only time you speak gruffly --or this is me, at least-- is when you address an intimate, or someone lower down than you on the pecking order.
And I've heard pleeeeeenty of women bat new-hires around...whew...!
Explains a lot of Muslim behavior, now doesn't it?
Ask Maximus of T. He seems to be on top of this subject...
"I'll take "New Expressions I've Learned on FreeRepublic" for $100, Alex."
A woman could be unsatisfied because the penis is too large, i.e. painful intercourse.
Anata wa nihonjin desuka?
If I had a dollar for every time I heard that...
How many dollars would you have?
(You're not supposed to ask that!)
Other cultures may see it as strange that sexuality should be prolonged after a couple pass their childrearing years.
Is there anything else that a man needs to learn?
####Sex is More Satisfying Where Genders Have More Equality####
Oh suuuure! That's why feminists are such hot babes!
Please define "childrearing years" for a man. As far as I know, that ends at the moment of the man's death.
They tried to but "the party of the second part" could only answer:
BAAAAAA! BA AAAAAAAA!
No, no, there's no hidden agenda in this study. Not at all. (end sarcasm)
Gaikokujin, desu yo. Screename ga kaitearu, no yo ni desu ne, fufu!....Dakedou nagai aida koko ni sundeimasu kara, kantan na nihongo no hou wa amari mondai dewa arimasen, ne...
Probably because all the apartments in Tokyo are about 1 sq foot in size.
Ah, but men don't live as long everywhere else in the world. A man fathering a child at 40 in America doesn't raise an eyebrow. In a third world nation, it means making his child fatherless when he dies at 45.

I don't think there are any places (at peace) where the average 40 year old can expect to be dead by 45.
The first sentence: "I am a foreigner"
The rest, give me a few hours with my Kodansha and Collins-Shubun and I might be able to figure that out coherently. I still remeber the colors and the names of planets, and the breakdown of their meanings. Jupiter = Mokusei
= wood planet, Venus = Kinsei = gold planet.
I'll bet you the dummies asked girls, too.
There are a few, though they may not fit the criteria of being at peace:

Dude-san,
That's exactly my point. KEIGO, and all that modest ass-kissing, bowing and scraping, is about POWER. Which is disproportionately distributed between Japanese males and all of their inferiors (women, foreigners/gaijin, etc.)
That has nothing to do with Communication, which helps to create intimacy, which really does help to set the sheets on fire, especially in a long-term relationship.
Are you sure that's not the Stepford Programmer's Guide you quoted? Not Housekeeping Monthly? (Or maybe The Onion, a couple of months ago?)
You'd have to be a male with an infinitesemally small ego/*ick/sense of self-worth to even find that funny.
I've seen that one before. It's quite amusing. BUT, I actually DO some of these things for my husband. You catch more flies with honey...and all that!
It's amazing what a few kindnesses can do for your marriage. In turn, he does a lot of nice things for me, too! :)
Damn. Lighten up, Francis.
My point is that for all they way guys are cracked up to being lord masters of the workplace, they're complete prisoners at home. And I mean that they have much, muuuuuuch less power at home than US dudes, do.
This notion that Japanese women are completely repressed...?
I think the notion that deep-down, all Japanese women want to be AMERICAN women is based on western observations of the Japanese WORKPLACE. Or, it's a perception based on observations of marriages between western men and Japanese women (which is the general pattern, when east meets west). Or lastly --and most importantly for our times-- it is the flamboyantly immodest opinion of American, clip-haired lesbian femist writers with easy access to a fawning US media culture.
But I do not believe it's a perception based on broad, and honest observations of patterns in a Japanese household, which is what I think really counts.
I'm a foreigner, as you can see based on my screename, haha! But for a long time I've lived here, so as far as basic Japanese conversation goes, I really don't have a problem, you know?
Gaikokujin, desu yo.
Foreigner, emphasis.

I'm afraid you misunderstand those stats a bit. Those life expectancy numbers represent life expectancy at birth. The biggest variable in determining life expectancy at birth is infant mortality, which is very high in many places. Often in high-mortality populations life expectancy at 5 maybe be a full 10 or 15 years above life expectancy at birth, and by 40 the chances are pretty good that you'll live to see 60.
Good clarification.
