NORFOLK - Police officers questioning Angela Mingo about the death of her 2-month-old granddaughter seemed incredulous at her indifference.

The girl, Syleena, died of meningitis brought on by brain injury. Her mother, Stepfanie Mingo, admitted to police that she kicked the girl, threw her on a concrete floor and punched her repeatedly in the face.

Remove them from the planet and their disease with them. I'm tired of coddling the 'mentally ill'. If they are so 'ill' that they are this much of a burden to this society, and cause this much damage to innocent lives, remove them. (I don't necessarily mean death, I mean lifetime mental institutions. Why can we spend millions to keep the lazy up, but can't spend that money on keeping the nutjobs locked away?)

NORFOLK - A 52-year-old man has been arrested and charged with taking indecent liberties and carnal knowledge of a minor after he impregnated his teenage step daughter.

James Mingo of Chesapeake remained in jail without bond Friday. He is the step father of Stepfanie Mingo, who pleaded guilty in February 2006 to murdering the child she bore, Syleena. The baby, whose name is spelled Sylena in some records, was about 8 weeks old when she died. The baby had been beaten and starved, and eventually died as a result of meningitis due to infection of her head wounds, with food poisoning contributing.

Stepfanie, now 19, was 17 at the time she gave birth. She is scheduled to be sentenced in June.

Stepfanie's mother, Angela Mingo, was convicted of second-degree murder in April 2006 and later sentenced to 40 years, the maximum for the crime. Angela Mingo watched the child while Stepfanie was at school. During Angela Mingo's sentencing hearing, her lawyer revealed the paternity of Stepfanie's baby. James Mingo is Angela Mingo's ex-husband.

According to the indictments, Mingo began molesting Stepfanie in November 2000, when she was 13.

I agree. His ex-wife, (the deceased baby’s grandmother ), got 40 years for her part in the death of the child. I doubt if he’ll get 40 years. He needs a .45 through the skull.
