Minuteman Leader Pushes Border Fence
Yahoo News ^ | Thu Apr 20, 3:53 PM ET | By ARTHUR H. ROTSTEIN, Associated Press Writer

Posted on 04/20/2006 4:27:06 PM PDT by Melissa 24

TUCSON, Ariz. - If the government doesn't build security fencing along the Mexico border, Minuteman border watch leader Chris Simcox says he and his supporters will.

Simcox, whose civilian watch group opposes illegal immigration, said Wednesday he was sending an ultimatum to President Bush to deploy military reserves to the Arizona border by May 25 or his supporters will break ground for their own building project.

"We're going to show the federal government how easy it is to build these security fences, how inexpensively they can be built when built by private people and free enterprise," Simcox said.

Congress has been debating immigration reform for several months. One bill, approved by the U.S. House in December, calls for nearly 700 miles of fencing along the U.S.-Mexico border. The fence proposal has angered Mexicans, with President Vicente Fox calling it "shameful."

Simcox said a half-dozen landowners along the Arizona-Mexico border have said they will allow fencing to be placed on their borderlands, and others in California, Texas and New Mexico have agreed to do so as well.

Surveyors and contractors have offered to help with the design and survey work, and Simcox said some have said they will provide heavy equipment for his Minuteman Civil Defense Corps. to build fencing.

I heard about this and that if everyone who agrees with it, donates $10, it will more than pay for it, I'm sure. I'm in.

Also, for all those nay sayers on building a "fence" or a "wall". When they take down the wall or fence they have around their own property/their house, then they can talk smack about it.

IOW, my neighbors are nice, but that doesn't mean I want them coming into my yard and house uninvited, at their whim, especially if they are coming over to take what does not belong to them and make demands upon me, that they have NO RIGHT to make.

Build that wall already. Go Chris, Go Minutemen!!!

Well our US government who is supposed to be making us safe and keeping us safe is laying down on the job, so now all our tax dollars go to welfare and we have to build our own fence. Why am I not surprised? All they want to do is pander to the illegals for their future votes. I am getting pretty sick of all politicians about now.

Europeans should voluntarily and willingly want to go home to their homeland, Europe, so that we can be completely free from Europeans.

We should be teaching the Europeans on our continent their proper shame.

The real border of these European squatters-illegals is at the Atlantic Ocean. Their homeland is Europe.

These are "White" people who are on our continent. Europeans can call themselves "Canadian" or "American" but their homeland is still Europe and they are still trespassing on our continent.

I'm not sure the U.S. government could stop this.

Besides the fences would be built on private property and I see this as a win/win for Bush. If Fox's government protests, Bush (if he's smart) can simply say that a U.S. citizen has the right to put up a fence on their own property. Fox could do nothing except maybe sue each individual landowner. And I'm betting that he wouldn't do that.

The military could guard the border while the fences are being built.

Bush and the rest of the America last crowd are not heeding the outcry against allowing illegal aliens by the thousands to invade this country unchallenged by our laws and enforcemnet of these laws.

The Senate and the House and the President are sitting on their butts with their fingers stuck in their noses responding with their stock answer, "DUH"!

Minuteman Border Fence Project

(PHOENIX, AZ) April 20, 2006 – Chris Simcox, President of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, today announced plans by the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps (“MCDC”) to work with local Arizona land owners to build border security fencing on private land along the border with Mexico.

At present, six private land owners have partnered with the Minutemen for the commencement of construction of border fencing on their land. Surveillance cameras on the fencing will be monitored via computer by registered Minutemen across the country. Two construction companies to date have offered to inaugurate groundbreaking, coordinate volunteer construction crews and donate the use of the necessary heavy construction equipment.

Simcox says those involved in the planning hope to keep costs near $150 per foot.

Click here to donate Directly to Minuteman Border Fence or go to:
http://www.MinutemanBorderFence.com

The groundbreaking will begin in Arizona on Memorial Day weekend, unless in the interim President Bush deploys troops to immediately secure the out-of-control southern border.

The fencing will be built with privately donated funds, engineering and labor and will be used as an example to educate the public about the feasibility and efficacy of fencing to secure America’s borders from illegal incursion by aliens and international criminal cartels. A non-profit organization dedicated specifically to this purpose will facilitate and administer donations for construction of the fence. Monetary and in-kind contributions for this effort will go directly into building materials for this private, volunteer fencing project.

Simcox issued the following statement on the MCDC border fence project:

“President Bush once said he would not wait on events to act to protect our country. He has been president for over five years, and still he has not acted to secure our territorial frontier, even as his administration admits the United States government does not have operational control of our borders.

“On Memorial Day weekend, the American people will exercise their God-given rights to protect their lives and property by initiating construction of border fencing along the border on private land unless President Bush immediately deploys troops along the breadth of the Southwestern border line with Mexico, thereby retaking the region from the international criminal cartels who presently are in operational control of the border. The existing border crisis is a dereliction of duty by those entrusted with American security and sovereignty, leaving America vulnerable to terrorist infiltration and an unprecedented crime wave caused by drug smugglers, rapists, thieves, human traffickers and murderers who currently cross our border at will.

“President Bush and Congress have taxed the wages of the American people to pay for the protection of our country, and expended those dollars to subsidize millions of low-wage illegal workers with housing, education, medical care, and welfare benefits. Yet even the most basic level of national territorial integrity requires that our elected representatives secure the border. Should they continue to refuse to do their Constitutional duty, the Minutemen will again step into the breach and commence building the required border barriers on private land and with private donations.

“Should President Bush and Congress fail to fulfill their oaths of office, and meet their Constitutional obligation to protect these United States from invasion, we, the sovereign people of the United States, having suffered a long train of abuses at the hand of a willfully insolent government, do hereby declare that these States ought, should and will be protected by American Minutemen.”

The leader of the Minutemen was on Hannity this afternoon. He already said they will build it if the Fed don't. He also said that government agencies are coming out of the woodwork to stop it. They are primarily going through the permitting process. No permit - no right to build. And it has to be within whatever the regulations are for fences or the govenrments (fed, state and municipal) can fine the property owner and order the fence condemned. He is also thinking the envirowackos will try to stop it because no environmental assessment was done.

This guy also said he welcomes the image of law enforement (and whatever other agencies may be involved) either tearing down a border barrier and/or arresting people building a border barrier while illegals stream across.

This is a great idea by the Minutement and I hope it succeeds. I just hope it doesn't turn into a Wacko fiasco.

They'll us the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service instead, guaranteed. If the wall prohibits the free travel of a lizard or a jackrabbit from scampering across the border they will use that as an excuse to shut down the project.

300 million times ten is three billion. Sounds like a ballpark figure, especially with all the volunteer labor and in-kind donations. Didn't the "government" estimate the cost as somewhere in that vicinity?

“Certainly, as with everything else, we’re only able to cover a small portion of the border,” Simcox said. “The state and federal government have bought up most of the land around the border. I suspect that’s why we’ll never get control of the border.”

But he said the plan is to put up secure fencing that truly will be an effective deterrent, and to show how easily it can be accomplished.
