Facilities in a prison are being built so Muslim inmates do not have to face Mecca while sitting on the toilet. The Home Office said two new toilet blocks are being installed as part of a refurbishment at Brixton jail in south London.
Faith leaders had told prison bosses it was unacceptable for Muslim inmates to face Mecca while using the toilet.
"The refurbishment has been carried out with due consideration for all faiths", a Home Office spokeswoman said.

You should check out an ask the Imam site. They have rules on which foot to step into the toilet first with, which hand to wipe with, how many times to wipe, etc. They have rules about every thing you can think of.

Concur. The term-of-art "faith leaders", I think, is a deliberate periphrasis around the Arabic term, imams, to disguise the fact that the prison Moo's have imams who are calling the shots and trying to compete with the British authorities on the subject under dispute.
Whenever Moslems challenge a host culture they are attacking, there is always a loudmouth imam out front. The British authorities should recognize this "issue" and deal with it for what it is, an attempted propaganda attack on the authority of the Crown to dispense justice to Moo prisoners under British, not Islamic, law.

In this ever so correct PC world where liberal wussies are always handing out puff balls to anyone who might be slighted in the most obscure way ... this latest concession has to be close to the top of the list. Next they will demand that toilets on aircraft, trains, ships, or any form of public transportation, be on a swivel with a compass.

Actually it would be a miracle if the line you were facing actually pointed anywhere near Mecca unless you were very close. They should relocate Mecca on the moon so you actually have a straight line of sight and you can be sure you are facing Mecca. Otherwise, a straight line to Mecca from the US is looking down at the ground.
