Bush to Speak in Irvine on Monday(Heads Up Orange County,CA)

President Bush is extending his weekend trip to California to speak Monday in Irvine on the volatile issue of immigration reform.

Bush will speak to the Orange County Business Council between 8 and 9 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Irvine, according to Myal Greene, spokesman for Rep. John Campbell, R-Irvine.

The president has repeatedly said he favors a comprehensive approach to immigration reform, one that strengthens borders and includes a guest-worker program that matches "willing workers with jobs that Americans won't do." That position puts him at odds with many Republicans in Orange County, including Campbell, who plans to attend the event in his district.

The majority of GOP House members oppose a guest-worker plan.

"The congressman sees this as an opportunity to share his concerns with the president," Greene said.

Legislation to bolster border security, institute a temporary guest-worker program and provide a path to legalization for many of the estimated 12million illegal immigrants in the country stalled in the Senate two weeks ago.

It is slated for further debate when the Senate reconvenes next week.

Two things Bush will never change, ever:

1. Our terrible border security
2. Our terrible tax system

" jobs that Americans won't do."

I've been living in Japan for 20 years ...Japan is the 2nd richest country in the world ...By and large Japanese pick their own vegetables and fruits ...Most Japanese don't have lawns , but if they did they would mow them by themselves ...Etc, etc...The minimum wage over here is around $ 4 an hour , and there is no shortage of Japanese people to take these jobs ...Very , very few people getting freebies from the government ...

Irvine is a tough place to talk about guest worker programs. That's one of the places that has far more Hispanics than they need/want/can support.

He should be talking about guest workers in places where immigrant labor is needed. Irvine ain't it.

Aye, but "Orange County" is a BIG place...
...and yesterdays's thread did not have the VENUE, nor the TIME of the President's visit.
As THIS thread does.

I live in Irvine, and I don't think there are far more Hispanics than we need/want/can support.

Time to break out the "Viva la Reagan Revolution" T Shirts and practice chanting, "We didn't leave The Party, The Party Left us!"

I don't think this one "deserves" it now. My point is that FReepers should not be joining in with DUmmies REGARDLESS of how you feel - I would go to the border with the Minutemen before I joined anti-war Bush bashers.
