I admire the foreign policy of countries like the UK and Australia. But their domestic policies are mystifying to me.

Horrifying. "A Clockwork Orange" made real. If Americans ever give-up their firearms, we deserve Britian's fate.

Excellent post, if indeed a sad article.

It is bad.

Beating someone into a comma, within an inch of death, is serious and deserves serious punishment, not a tap on the wrist. Life in prison, as suggested, would be reasonable. I would have no problem with capital punishment. Nine months and six months in prison, as in these two cases, is a joke upon civilized people.

I think this article illustrates how a society can go down hill, denying it all the way.

Here are a few quotes that I like:

...bogus statistics, the manufacture of which is now every British senior policeman’s principal task

The government sees itself as an engineer of souls (to use the phrase so eloquently coined by Stalin ...
rather than with performing its one inescapable duty: that of preserving the peace and ensuring that citizens may go about their lawful business in confidence and safety.

I believe there is a comment about England having the highest crime rate - but I couldn’t find it again. I believe they have gun control ...

Its population is abysmally educated, to the extent that in a few more years Britain will not even have a well-educated elite.

This hits a little close to home. I have a Bachelor of Science degree and two Master’s degrees. Sometime I hope to advance my education by reading the fifth and sixth McGuffy reader. I think our education has gone down hill too.

"One definition of decadence is the concentration on the gratifyingly imaginary to the disregard of the disconcertingly real."

Did I hear someone say "Democratic Party"?
