Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda 'on the run'
Herald Sun ^ | 24 April 2006

Posted on 04/23/2006 4:44:06 PM PDT by Aussie Dasher

THE White House said overnight that Al-Qaeda leaders were "under a lot of pressure" and "on the run" following the release of a new video recording by the group's chief, Osama bin Laden.

"The Al-Qaeda leadership is on the run and under a lot of pressure. We are continuing to take the fight to the enemy abroad, and making it difficult for them to plan and plot against America," White House spokesman Scott McClellan said in Twentynine Palms, California.

The spokesman's comments came after the new video recording surfaced on Al-Jazeera television overnight in which Bin Laden called on Muslim fighters to go to Sudan to wage war against "crusader thieves" and slammed the international isolation of the Hamas-led Palestinian government.

"We must continue to take all terrorist threats seriously. That is why we are acting on all fronts and doing everything within our power to prevail in the war on terrorism," McClellan said.

But senior Democrat legislator Jane Harman accused the Bush administration Sunday of letting the Iraq war divert attention from hunting down bin Laden.

"The tape reminds us that four years after 9/11, Osama bin Laden is still at large, the subject of the largest manhunt in history, and we haven't been able to find him," said Harman, speaking on the Fox News Sunday television program.

Bin Laden is desperate to appear relevant. He isn't!

BTW, who the hell is Jane Harman?

Imagine if this were about WWII.

But senior Democrat legislator Jane Harman accused the Roosevelt administration Sunday of letting the war in Europe divert attention from hunting down Hirohito.

Nah, he's relevant. Especially in the symbolic sense. Which matters a great deal on the Islamic street. Killing or capturing him will have a big negative psychological effect on them.

It will also have a bit positive effect here in the States and a boost to our guys in uniform as well.

With that said, how the DEM's talk of UBL "still" being alive is nothing but spin and BS. They don't have a clue what they are talking about and they can't be trusted to hold a majority in either branch of Congress. National security is too important to trust them with.

Harman is the ranking Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee (or what passes for the House intelligence committee). She was on Fox News Sunday to talk about intelligence issues and I found her performance appallingly partisan.

As far as Bin Laden goes, he is reduced to issuing tapes several times a year from the Pakistani outback. He is in charge of nothing, controls nothing, has no money, and if he actually tried to contact any world leader of consequence they would drop a dime on his ass so fast. We have destroyed Al Qaeda - just because every two-bit gang of thugs says they are part of Al Qaeda doesn't mean anything.

Most Americans care more about gas going down a quarter than capturing Osama.

It's nice that we're applying pressure to UBL and his goon squad, but after 4+ years maybe its time we inserted 200,000 soldiers and took and held every single village, enclave and cave. I thought we'd have either UBL or Zawahiri or Mullah Omar by now. I sometimes get the feeling we pussy foot around with these troglodytes.

Getting the guy who pulled the trigger would be nice, but getting the guy behind him is pretty nice too. We got Saddam. That, believe it or not, was number one. We'll get his side-kick sooner or later.

I wish the White House would button up about catching Bin Laden. They have failed countless times so far, and they should assume they'll fail many more times.

while i am certain that he will be caught and brought to justice, i am equally glad that he must look over his shoulder day and night to make sure he is safe.. one day he was on top of the world thinking he's brought the US down but since then he just runs and runs and runs ... stress is a slow poison

Shhhhh, don't tell jane harmon and other dems but this bad dude has been on the run for 20 years (even under some democrat administrations) and he has a hefty bounty on his head, too:

Imad Mugniyeh

"Mugniyeh is on the FBI’s “Most Wanted Terrorists” list for his role in a series of high-profile attacks against the West, including the 1985 hijacking of a TWA jet and murder of one of its passengers, a US navy diver.

Now in his mid-forties, Mugniyeh is reported to have travelled with Ahmadinejad in January this year from Tehran to Damascus, where the Iranian president met leaders of Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and Hamas."

Actually I think this is their fall back line. They are bailing from Iraq and Afghanistan. Iran (or Syria) will be next so they need to regroup somewhere. With only African Union forces there they are on better terms. Once they are committed and we see the bulk of their resources shifting, we will be able to choke them off there as well.
